Minor Moon is the songwriting project of Chicago-based musician Sam Cantor. Conjuring elements of J.J. Cale, Grizzly Bear and Judee Sill, the band’s latest album, The Light Up Waltz (Ruination Record Co.) takes a big-hearted and kaleidoscopic lens to apocalyptic themes. The resulting vision is “deeply adventurous … a sharp, reflective eye on the rearview mirror” (Pop Matters) and shot through with “soothing, sure-footed tenderness … an undeniable buoyancy” (Chicago Reader).
This fall, guitarist and pedal steel player Rich Hinman brings a mind-expanding instrumental ensemble to the Lizard Lounge featuring Sam Kassirer, Nate Radley, Chris Morrisey, and special guests!
On his recent LP “Memorial,” on Colorfield Records, multi-instrumentalist and composer Rich Hinman creates an arresting collage containing elements of electronica, psychedelia, and searching improvisation, with Hinman’s pedal steel as the primary voice. In this fall residency he experiments with a quintet of like-minded explorers. Collectively, Hinman, Kassirer, Radley, Drohan and Morrissey have worked with kd lang, Sara Bareilles, Emily King, Maggie Rogers, Mark Guiliana, Norah Jones, Nick Hakim, Josh Ritter and many many others.
