Boston’s Void Union has spent the past 15 years unassumingly building a reputation as one of the best ensembles in the Ska/Reggae genre. Initially conceived as an instrumental project, with occasional vocal guests, the band has morphed into a showcase of Jamaican Jazz expertise but with the powerhouse soul/reggae vocals of, longtime local workaholic, Riki Rocksteady. For their one night engagement at Lizard Lounge, VU enlists David Hillyard; founding Saxophonist of Brooklyn’s legendary The Slackers, and auteur of his own Dave Hillyard and the Rocksteady 7. Dave has one of the most recognizable tones in any genre, but also brings a unique compositional voice to his own instrumental tunes, which will pepper the set list of Void Union originals and Jamaican standards with an extra dose of NYC cool.
The Electric Heaters are a Boston-based instrumental trio that serve up a cinematic blend of “Retro‑sonic Surf Noir”—imagine reverb‑soaked guitar twang meeting spy, soul, spaghetti‑western, and surf vibes. Led by guitarist Matt Heaton, their music evokes moody, groove‑laden soundtracks for imaginary films, with nods to Morricone, Booker T., Link Wray and The Raybeats. Their debut studio album, From the Film of the Same Name, released in 2022, reimagines forgotten ‘60s–‘80s B‑movie themes with a modern twist. The Electric Heaters bring a chilly North Atlantic surf flair that’s dark, dreamy, and undeniably cinematic—all without uttering a word.
