Dubbed a “master of musical imagination” by NPR’s World Café Live and “astonishing” by WBUR Boston\, Lorenz’s weathered\, howl-flecked voice was described by Rochester City Newspaper as “a cross between Hound Dog Taylor and a Tuvan throat singer who has swallowed a bird.” \nLorenz has earned snowballing acclaim for his achingly poetic dark folk. A solitary artist with an organic yet ornate vision\, his seventh album To Go On is his most acutely profound yet. Created in the wake of losing his sister\, singer-songwriter Kate Lorenz\, it’s a tender\, beautiful\, and arrestingly moving record; an internal dialogue and conversation with the departed\, enormously resonant to anyone who ever loved anyone. \nSuitcase Junket \n\n\nJulia Read is a songwriter and musician living in Western Mass. Read’s original music ranges from haunting to theatrical to self-parodic. Her voice moves river-like through landscapes of the mundane and mystical\, seeking range\, surprise\, and alchemy. Read is a classically trained violinist and has toured internationally and played on studio recordings with various musicians. Read is also a performer\, with a background in clowning and improv\, and is a founding member of the theatre collective The Royal Frog Ballet. She loves to sing with others\, especially Georgian music\, and currently performs with Doozy Jane\, a quartet rooted in traditions of American harmony singing and swingy string bands.
