SUMMARY:The Weisstronauts/The Carnivals
DESCRIPTION:The Weisstronauts and The Carnivals meet up March 15th at the Lizard Lounge!\n\n\n$20 adv/$25 doors \nDoors 8 \nThe Weisstronauts are a hard-to-pigeonhole instrumental ensemble. (Are they a surf band? A boozy lounge act? A countrified chicken-pickin’ combo? A tripped out psych band? A freak-rock monstrosity? A spy movie theme time machine? All of the above?) \nLed by Boston-based producer/engineer/mixer Pete Weiss\, The ‘Nauts have toured all over the east coast and sometimes farther\, releasing seven full-length albums and four mini-albums. Their latest release\, “Hamming It Down\,” peaked at #3 on the national alt-country radio chart in the spring of 2023. As Mojo Flucke of Popdose.com put it\, “Hamming It Down continues the Weisstronauts’ decades-long string of some of most well put-together instrumental albums I’ve ever heard. You can hear shades of everyone from Buck Owens to Wes Montgomery up in there.” \nOr in the words of Richard Bouchard of Boston Band Crush\, the band likes to “toss major surf rock influences into a blender with everything else they’ve ever even sort of liked and pull out songs built on combinations that look insane on paper but absolutely kill once you hear them.” \nwww.weisstronauts.com \n\n\nNew Orleans meets Gloucester Ma. The Carnivals out their own spin on 50’s RnB with frontman Kevin Patey (Raging Teens/Jittery Jack) adding piano\, sax and a full band sound topped off with second vocals from Kea Romani. The ultimate fun time party band! \nThe Carnivals

SUMMARY:Other Brother Darryl "Roll Shine Roll" Album Release with Undercover Cameo
DESCRIPTION:BMA winners Other Brother Darryl celebrate the release of “Roll Shine Roll” with special guests Undercover Cameo March 8th!\n\n\n\nOther Brother Darryl\, 2024 Boston Music Award Country Artist of the Year\, are a seven piece\, alt-country supergroup. Their debut album\, Roll Shine Roll\, is set for release on February 28\, 2025. It is dedicated to fallen bandmate and close friend Dave Mirabella\, who passed away suddenly in April 2022. The family of players includes a list of veteran singer-songwriters and prominent fixtures from Boston. The band of Brothers are; Dan Nicklin\, Nate Leavitt\, Dan Cederholm\, Chad Raleigh\, Derek Feeney\, Dave Lieb and Jim Collins. \nFirst coming together over a love of big folk harmonies\, the cosmic canyon rock sound of CSNY\, The Jayhawks and Wilco\, and the television series Newhart\, the seeds of Other Brother Darryl were first conceptualized back in 2012 at the defunct Somerville\, MA rock club Radio\, where each member would perform frequently with their respective projects. An endless string of conversations\, local Boston rock shows\, and beers would line the next several years\, and in 2019\, Other Brother Darryl would make good on a promise to each other to bring their collective creative vision to life and write and record the album they were always meant to. \nIn November 2022\, the band released their debut single\, “Until I Do.” Hump Day News wrote\, “Other Brother Daryl picks up the thread of new Americana that bands like Wilco have returned to respectability in the new millennium.” Second single “Drive” arrived a year later\, followed by February 2024’s “Gypsy Girl.” In May of 2024\, the Brothers were finalists in the Rock and Roll Rumble. A mini-documentary about the origins of the band was released in June of that year. August would see the group release their fourth single\, “Sometimes.” If It’s Too Loud declared “Other Brother Darryl have made one of the most powerful and compelling tracks to come out of the Boston scene in a long time.” The Brothers would release “The Ballad of Joni & Graham” in the Fall of ‘24. Inspired by the storied relationship between Joni Mitchell and Graham Nash\, the Boston Herald claimed it a “must for your Autumn playlist.” \n \nOther Brother Darrly \n\n\nLucas Neil and Olivia Charlotte are Undercover Cameo. Considered by many to be the best rising folk act in Rhode Island\, the duo has been taking the New England music scene by storm. Known for their ethereal sound and superb vocal harmonies\, Neil and Charlotte are intent on cultivating an environment of loving and healing energies for every audience they encounter. \n \nUndercover Cameo

SUMMARY:Ali McGuirk
DESCRIPTION:Soulful influenced singer songwriter Ali McGuirk returns to the Lizard Lounge March 7th!\n\n\n$20 adv/$25 door \n \nBlending classic soul power with a folk songwriter lyricism\, New England’s Ali McGuirk has the rare ability to silence a room with just a few words of a song. With a voice that is raw and sultry and a style rooted in improvisation\, her sets are a hypnotic and intimate journey. \nOn her Signature Sounds Recordings debut ’Til It’s Gone\, McGuirk delivers a sublime set of songs that pairs her trademark soul sound with rootsy turns and raw rock ‘n’ roll detours. The album landed on the Boston Globe’s Top 50 Albums list for 2022. Consequence of Sound raved\, “‘All Back’ feels like it could exist somewhere outside of space and time– it could be on a record in the background of a party in a 1970s bungalow\, or it could be on your Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify. Either way\, it’s a great listen.” \nMcGuirk co-produced ‘Til It’s Gone with Jonah Tolchin (a star singer-songwriter in his own right) and a set of session legends: Little Feat guitarist/mandolinist Fred Tackett\, organist Larry Goldings (James Taylor\, Norah Jones)\, singer Valerie Pinkston (Ray Charles\, Luther Vandross)\, percussionist Lenny Castro (Stevie Nicks\, Stevie Wonder). They provided the astounding chops\, but the true magic of the album comes from McGuirk’s singular voice as both singer and songwriter. The nine tracks run from intimate introspection to wider meditations on oppression and justice\, from tough r&b and tender soul to big rock guitar and twangy folk. And McGuirk’s voice – bold\, buttery\, spellbinding – carries each song to the next til they’re gone. \nAli McGuirk

SUMMARY:Otis Grove/BT All Stars
DESCRIPTION:Otis Grove bring the Runk to Lizard Lounge with The BT All Stars .\n\n\n$20 adv/$25 door \nDoors at 8 \nThere’s a new sound taking over the town known as Boston. If you’re by the banks of the Charles River as the moon glows over the muddy waters you very well may hear some thick\, groovy beats banging out a trail for raw guitar licks and a soul-drenched Hammond organ. Yes indeed\, ladies and gentleman who are down with the funk\, it’s time to get rocked by your new favorite band: Otis Grove. \n \nOtis Grove began as a collective experiment in crossing the traditional organ jazz sound with funk\, hip-hop\, and rock tones. It was the beginning of a sonic realization based in groove and free in improvisation\, yet rooted in songwriting and melodic structure. In early 2004\, on the heels of their self-titled debut album\, the band began spreading their sound to clubs around the New England area. The music\, which has since evolved into a unique blend of aggressive rock n’ roll and high-intensity organ funk (some fans have dubbed their genre ‘Runk’- a mixture of rock and funk)\, pays tribute to the masters while consistently pushing itself in new directions. Performer Magazine writer Sam Merrick described it as “a monstrous funk groove that probably would have sent Godzilla running had he been in the neighborhood.” \n \nWhile an organ-based power trio at it’s core\, Otis Grove likes to keep it spicy by frequently collaborating with other musicians. Special guests who have joined the band for performances and recordings include Oteil Burbridge\, Mr. Lif\, Melvin Sparks\, Akrobatik\, Ryan Montbleau\, Jesse Dee\, The Akashic Horns\, Garrett Sayers\, Tim Palmieri\, Amy Bellamy\, Aaron Bellamy\, Bill Carbone\, Beau Sasser\, Johnny Trama\, Danny Mayer…… and many many more. \nOtis Grove \n\n\n\nBT Allstars represents the incredibly versatile and ever evolving phenomenal group of musicians that Brian collaborates with to produce studio and live recordings and perform live on stage. Original Jazz\, Funk\, Soul and Reggae is on the menu powered by friends including Steve Fell (guitar)\, Tom Arey (drums)\, Sam Gilman (organ)\, Jared Sims (saxophone)\, DELA (saxophone)\, Dean Johnston (drums)\, Jeffrey Lockhart (guitar)\, Johnny Trama (guitar)\, Mike Tucker (saxophone) and Darby Wolf (organ)\, Yahuba Garcia-Torres (percussion) and The A-Beez (keys & bass) just to name a handful. \n \nBt All Stars \n\n\nLizard Lounge Is 21+

SUMMARY:Katy Pinke/Alexander/Greg Hall
DESCRIPTION:Three great songwriters converge on the Lizard Lounge stage Feb 26th with Katy Pinke\, Alexander and Greg Hall!\n\n\n$15 adv/$18 door \nDoors at 7 \n\n\nThere are albums – sometimes debut records – that introduce themselves with overt gestures\, announcing their arrival with the subtlety of an air horn through a megaphone. Those LPs can be brilliant and instantly engaging. But sometimes\, a debut comes along with charm and wit and an up-close-and-personal style that almost sounds like you’re sitting right there with the musicians\, experiencing the creation of something unique and special. Katy Pinke gives us the latter. \nPinke\, a Manhattan-based singer-songwriter\, takes cues on her self-titled debut album from artists like the Roches\, Bill Callahan\, and Aldous Harding. While her infectious soprano can\, at times\, sound like it’s coming from a place of naïve purity\, the quality of that voice and the songs it sings bear the burden of a musician and songwriter with a wealth of talent and experience. \nKaty Pinke \n\n\nAlexander is the music project of Boston-based musician and educator Alex Fatato. In 2018\, Alexander released their debut album Settle Down\, which was recognized by NPR for lyrics that “get a grip on distorted thinking.” In 2024\, Alexander released their fourth album\, Lucky Life. Alexander’s music is for everyone. \nAlexander \n\n\nGreg Hall is a singer/songwriter based in the hills of Western Massachusetts. Born with music all around and raised by horses on a farm in another part of the Northeast\, his upbringing has shaped a career playing his brand of folk/country songs across New England\, touring with his own band and as a member of Ward Hayden & the Outliers. In the tradition of his favorite songwriters\, Elliot Smith and Willie Nelson\, his lyrics are centered on the grounded intimacy of personal moments and universal human stories.Greg Hall’s new release\, “Birds & Roses” showcases his personal approach to lyric writing in an acoustic setting. Twangville says\, “The arrangements are beautifully stripped to the core\, his voice and acoustic guitar in the forefront.” \n \nGreg Hall

SUMMARY:The Blue Ribbons/Bob Bradshaw
DESCRIPTION:The Blue Ribbons return to the Lizard Lounge Feb 22nd!\n\n\nEvent is 21+$15/$18 \n“The Blue Ribbons’ latest album\, 2024’s “Forever\, But Not For Long\,” has plenty of pop hooks. Or rather\, it had plenty of them before the band took sledgehammers and scalpels to most of the pretty bits. \n“It took a while to get the bones of some of the tunes down just so we could break them\,” bandleader James Rohr told Herald with a laugh. \nLocal champs the Blue Ribbons are a pop band in the same way that the Beatles or Steely Dan or Television are pop bands in that they like pop but “aren’t too precious about the songs\,” Rohr said. \nJed Gottleib – Boston Herald \n \nBob Bradshaw is a storyteller. And like any good storyteller\, he possesses the ability to transform himself right before your very eyes\, to not only craft a compelling cast of characters\, but to inhabit them with complete and utter conviction. Take a listen to Bradshaw’s captivating new album\, The Ghost Light\, and you’ll find a true chameleon at work. One moment he’s an impulsive daredevil plunging over Niagara Falls in a wooden barrel; the next\, a sea-weary pirate lured to his death by a choir of sirens. More often than not\, though\, he’s simply one of us\, just an ordinary\, everyday soul searching for meaning\, hope\, and redemption wherever he can find it. \n \nBob Bradshaw

SUMMARY:The Macrotones/Abby Jeanne and The Shadowband
DESCRIPTION:The Macrotones return to the Lizard Lounge Feb 21st with Abby Jeanne & The Shadowband!\n\n\nEvent is 21+\n$15/20 door \nEstablished in Boston in 2007\, The Macrotones are a 10-piece unit steeped in off-beat funk & soul rhythms from all over the globe. Blazing horns meet mighty hooks for a progressive mix fit to fill any dancefloor. \nThe band’s tightly-honed grooves and infectious sound has shared the stage with like-minded practitioners such as Lee Fields & the Expressions\, Durand Jones & the Indications\, the Budos Band\, Grupo Fantasma\, Orgone\, Ikebe Shakedown\, and Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars. Since typical genre descriptions fail to fully capture the scope of the Macrotones sound\, new monikers need exploration: imperial funk\, astrobeat\, or even “a soundtrack for spies” all fit. \nAfter numerous instrumental LP’s and EP’s released on Music ADD\, a new era for the band began in 2019 when friend and occasional guest vocalist Phil Desisto joined full time. Phil’s commanding and gritty vocals\, a bit like Bobby Womack meets Mike Patton\, saw the band embrace more classic soul sounds from the ‘6os and ’70s\, while retaining their edgy funk. \nJune 2024 finally saw the release of ‘From The Void’\, their new LP with Phil on all 10 tracks. A feature on WBUR’s album guide remarked that “the LP showcases soulful lead vocals along with the psychedelic grooves the Macrotones have mastered.” \nMacrotones \n\n\nAbby Jeanne’s sound is a tapestry of genres and emotions\, driven by her soulful vocals and pop art influences. Drawing inspiration from vintage sounds\, her sonic landscape holds a recipe of nostalgia\, depth\, and playfulness incorporating elements of rock ‘n’ roll\, girl group garage\, and classic soul. The blend of old and new creates a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly original. However\, what truly sets her apart is her powerful and soul shaking vocals. They infuse each song with raw emotion and depth\, creating a transcendental connection with her listeners. \nAbby Jeanne and the Shadowband

DJ sets by lilith February 19th!\n\n\n$15 adv/$20 door \nlilith is a Boston-based DJ and producer taking the familiarity of hip hop and adding a jolt of footwork\, quickly carving out a niche with their brainy beats and kinetic sets.. Driven by the pulse of the beat scene they share with friends and peers\, alongside influences like Dazegxd\, Knxwledge\, and SOPHIE\, lilith’s rise has been fueled by a passion to connect and inspire. \nLAVAGXRL\, the Boston-based producer\, singer\, rapper\, and songwriter\, channels the chaos of modern life into a deeply personal musical journey. Originally from Washington\, DC\, they moved to Boston to study music\, drawing inspiration from emo\, hip-hop\, and jazz to create a glitchy\, atmospheric sound. LAVAGXRL’s debut album\, Faith in Chaos (2023)\, is a reflection of their unrestrained creativity\, and serves as both a cathartic release and a source of spiritual healing. LAVAGXRL embraces melancholy\, exploring the healing power of music and connection\, while also confronting themes of trauma\, anxiety\, and emotional vulnerability. Faith in Chaos is an essential reminder that despite the absurdity that surrounds us\, there is beauty in simply being alive. \nInfusing her jazz background with contemporary pop influences to create an effervescent blend of soulful alt-pop\, Dear Dea speaks to the heart. The lone Finnish-born member of her family\, Dear Dea’s journey is a testament to resilience and self-discovery. Navigating between being a daughter of immigrants in Helsinki and her years spent in the bustling streets of New York City\, she pulls from her diverse experiences to craft music that taps into the universal human condition. Drawing parallels to Yebba\, Cleo Sol\, MICHELLE\, and Moonchild\, Dear Dea guides audiences sonically through boundless strength and authenticity\, poised to be an artist on the rise as she carves out her path in the industry. \nMingko\, Abigail Zachko is a talented guitarist\, singer-songwriter\, and creative force known for their genre-blending style. Starting their musical journey at 17\, Abigail toured with UK artist Mura Masa\, performing at major festivals and on The Late Night Show and the NME Awards. As well as being a key member of the Boston-based math rock band Ski Club\, Abigail leads their solo project Mingko\, blending experimental rock\, jazz\, and indie influences into a genre-blurring sound described as “art-damaged rock with jazz-infected vision.” Mingko released their latest EP\, THUMB!\, in April 2024. \nChaiah is an electronic jazz R&B musician\, producer\, and engineer from Buenos Aires\, known for fusing live jazz instrumentation with electronic sound design. Drawing inspiration from artists like Alfa Mist\, BADBADNOTGOOD\, Bjork\, and MNDSGN\, she seeks to create high states of introspection and euphoria with her compositions to create limitless soundscapes and human experiences. In 2024\, Chaiah received Berklee’s prestigious Career Jam Concert music production award and a scholarship to complete her studies at the college. She recently released her debut album\, Control Release\, a euphoric\, autobiographical project that carries a distinctly personal narrative woven through lush grooves\, layered electronic textures\, and live instrumentation—a loving homage to her roots in the Buenos Aires’ music scene.
