DESCRIPTION:Rock out with The Lo-I\, Miss Christine\, and See You At Rogers in an unforgettable live music experience live at the Lizard Lounge Jan 17th!\n\n\n$18/$23 door \nDoor 7 \n \nThe Lo-i (formerly Morning Is Rising) are Chloe V. Green (Vocals\, Bass\, Guitar) and Iarla Ó hAllmhuráin (Vocals\, Guitar\, Bass) with Chuck Hargreaves (Drums). SUMMARY:Void Union feat Dave Hillyard of the The Slackers w/ The Electric Heaters!
DESCRIPTION:Void Union live at the Lizard Lounge with Dave Hillyard of The Slackers January 16th with special guests The Electric Heaters!\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n$20/$25 Doors \nDoors 7 \n \nBoston’s Void Union has spent the past 15 years unassumingly building a reputation as one of the best ensembles in the Ska/Reggae genre. Initially conceived as an instrumental project\, with occasional vocal guests\, the band has morphed into a showcase of Jamaican Jazz expertise but with the powerhouse soul/reggae vocals of\, longtime local workaholic\, Riki Rocksteady. For their one night engagement at Lizard Lounge\, VU enlists David Hillyard; founding Saxophonist of Brooklyn’s legendary The Slackers\, and auteur of his own Dave Hillyard and the Rocksteady 7. Dave has one of the most recognizable tones in any genre\, but also brings a unique compositional voice to his own instrumental tunes\, which will pepper the set list of Void Union originals and Jamaican standards with an extra dose of NYC cool. \n \nhttp://voidunion.com/ \n\n\n \nThe Electric Heaters are a Boston-based instrumental trio that serve up a cinematic blend of “Retro‑sonic Surf Noir”—imagine reverb‑soaked guitar twang meeting spy\, soul\, spaghetti‑western\, and surf vibes. Led by guitarist Matt Heaton\, their music evokes moody\, groove‑laden soundtracks for imaginary films\, with nods to Morricone\, Booker T.\, Link Wray and The Raybeats. Their debut studio album\, From the Film of the Same Name\, released in 2022\, reimagines forgotten ‘60s–‘80s B‑movie themes with a modern twist. The Electric Heaters bring a chilly North Atlantic surf flair that’s dark\, dreamy\, and undeniably cinematic—all without uttering a word. \nThe Electric Heaters

SUMMARY:The Macrotones and Miss Fairchild!
DESCRIPTION:The Macrotones return to the Lizard Lounge with Miss Fairchild Jan 10th at 8 oclock!\n\n\nEvent is 21+\n$15/20 door \nEstablished in Boston in 2007\, The Macrotones are a 10-piece unit steeped in off-beat funk & soul rhythms from all over the globe. Blazing horns meet mighty hooks for a progressive mix fit to fill any dancefloor. \nThe band’s tightly-honed grooves and infectious sound has shared the stage with like-minded practitioners such as Lee Fields & the Expressions\, Durand Jones & the Indications\, the Budos Band\, Grupo Fantasma\, Orgone\, Ikebe Shakedown\, and Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars. Since typical genre descriptions fail to fully capture the scope of the Macrotones sound\, new monikers need exploration: imperial funk\, astrobeat\, or even “a soundtrack for spies” all fit. \nAfter numerous instrumental LP’s and EP’s released on Music ADD\, a new era for the band began in 2019 when friend and occasional guest vocalist Phil Desisto joined full time. Phil’s commanding and gritty vocals\, a bit like Bobby Womack meets Mike Patton\, saw the band embrace more classic soul sounds from the ‘6os and ’70s\, while retaining their edgy funk. \nJune 2024 finally saw the release of ‘From The Void’\, their new LP with Phil on all 10 tracks. A feature on WBUR’s album guide remarked that “the LP showcases soulful lead vocals along with the psychedelic grooves the Macrotones have mastered.” \nMacrotones \n\n\nFor the last two decades under the stage lights\, New England’s Miss Fairchild has built a reputation on spectacle\, musicianship\, awe\, and entertainment. Capably combining “juicy bass\, slick grooves\, and that peaches-and-cream brand of rhythm and blues” (Dig Boston) the band’s live performances have come to resemble one of Prince’s storied aftershows: a melange of original-song staples\, b-side cover tunes\, and extended jams that would make even the Purple One smirk and bat his lashes with approval.\n\nBut who exactly is Miss Fairchild? Think of her as your favorite aunt: flashy\, freewheeling\, funky as hell\, and most importantly not your parents. She was born in 2004 on a spit of land 30 miles out to sea. Only she isn’t a flesh-and-blood person\, she’s an idea—a muse for a band. \nSongwriting partners Travis Richard and Schuyler Dunlap—along with renowned producer/DJ\, Sammy Bananas (Fools Gold Records)—started MF as a recording project at a time where home studio resources were newly available en masse. Tucked away in a basement on Nantucket Island\, MA\, they developed a unique sound and singular sense of cool\, putting their own spin on Pop-oriented Funk and R&B. But the studio could not contain them; Richard was destined to be on the bandstand interacting with a live audience. \nTaking his cues from genre-defining heroes James Brown and Sly Stone\, Richard applied his care for songcraft and music production to the development of an engaging live show that balances polished arrangements with off-the-cuff vamps and grimacing Funk breakdowns. \nSome of the most sought after players in New England were assembled to help realize his dream. Guitarist Dan Thomas\, saxophonist Jeff Fennell\, and drummer Jimmy Robitaille—all hailing from Western MA—are regularly featured in some of the funkiest and most reputable bands in New England (The Valley Moonstompers Society\, Beau Sasser & Friends). Original MF bassist Patrick Johnson returns from hiatus to dress the rhythm section in heart and soul\, authenticating the sound. \nThe year 2021 saw the band emerging from a pandemic-induced creative slump\, complete with new material and a renewed sense of purpose; people need Miss Fairchild today. Their new album\, Déjà Vu (release date TBD)\, which reunites the band with songwriter/guitarist Dunlap\, rockets through the atmosphere fueled by instant Party-Funk classics (“Tryin’ For The Weekend”) then floats amongst the stars with sexy\, slow-burn numbers (lead single “Body Right\, pt. I & II”). \n“Juicy bass\, slick grooves\, and that peaches-and-cream brand of rhythm and blues… Miss Fairchild has arrived fresh off the mothership to provide your senses with all kinds of musical sex\, placing you squarely on the verge of doin’ it.” – Dig Boston \n  \nMiss Fairchild

SUMMARY:Dub Apocalypse
DESCRIPTION:Ring in the New Year with the echo drenched sounds of Dub Apocalypse!\n\n\n	MUST BE 21+ \n Dub Apocalypse is an instrumental dub reggae band from Boston\, MA. Band members are Tommy Benedetti-drums\,Van Martin-guitar\,Johnny Trama-guitar\,Aaron Bellamy-bass\,and Timo Shanko-sax/bass. The band came together in 2007\, led by drummer Tommy Benedetti and guitarist\, Johnny Trama.Tommy Benedetti is one of the founding members of American Reggae Pioneers\,John Brown’s Body. He brings a wealth of experience from the reggae/dub scene to the table\,having recorded albums for the legendary Shanachie Label\,John Zorn’s Tzadik Label (mixed by Bill Laswell)\,and is currently with John Brown’s Body on Easy Star Records. This history is combined with almost 2 decades of International touring\,as well as backing some of the giants of Jamaican music\,including The Meditations and Justin Hinds. \n Guitarist Johnny Trama adds a soulful blues touch to the Dub Apocalypse signature sound.Trama has spent time on the road with the great Ron Levy\, BB King’s organ player\, as well as many other regional rock and soul/r&b acts. Not long after Dub Apocalypse came together\, longtime friend Timo Shanko entered the fold.A dual threat on both bass and saxophone\,Shanko is a veteran of the blues and free jazz scene. He spent many years on the road with Blues legend\, Eddie Kirkland\, as well as with G. Love and Special Sauce. Shanko is also a prolific composer\,and his improvisational stylings are an integral part of the Dub Apocalypse sound. Although DA started out as more of a collective\,in the past few years the lineup has solidified with the addition of bassist Aaron Bellamy and guitarist Van Martin. Bellamy is a longtime fixture in the Boston funk scene\,and in combination with Benedetti \,they form the deep\,militant sound at the core of Dub Apocalypse. \n Originally hailing from Chicago\,Van Martin rounds out the lineup on guitar. Martin has much touring experience as well\, including appearances with Bernie Worrell and Big Daddy Kane. His sonic textures\,adventurous playing and songwriting have helped Dub Apocalypse take their sound to a new level. The DA sound is an evolving mix of original compositions and their own interpretations of classic Jamaican and UK songs and dub plates. Heavy hitting drum and bass grooves set the table. A twin guitar attack\, with Trama’s rhythmic anchor\,and Martin’s dub sonics\, swirl in and out in tandem. These pieces\, combined with Timo Shanko’s Coltrane inspired sax approach\, give Dub Apocalypse a

DESCRIPTION:The Blue Ribbons return to the Lizard Lounge Dec 27th with Jake Manzi at 8!\n\n\n$15/$20 \nDoors 7 \n \n“The Blue Ribbons’ latest album\, 2024’s “Forever\, But Not For Long\,” has plenty of pop hooks. Or rather\, it had plenty of them before the band took sledgehammers and scalpels to most of the pretty bits. \n“It took a while to get the bones of some of the tunes down just so we could break them\,” bandleader James Rohr told Herald with a laugh. \nLocal champs the Blue Ribbons are a pop band in the same way that the Beatles or Steely Dan or Television are pop bands in that they like pop but “aren’t too precious about the songs\,” Rohr said. \nJed Gottleib – Boston Herald \n \nThe Blue Ribbons \n \n \n\n\nJake Manzi is a Los Angeles based singer/songwriter\, raised in Western Massachusetts. With a subtle touch for turning up pure song-stuff out of life\, channeling the likes of Marshall Crenshaw and Tom Petty\, of Lucinda Williams and Bruce Springsteen\, Manzi offers you his singular take on what contemporary pop-rock can be. Opening for acts like Dawes\, NRBQ\, Ron Sexsmith\, Lori McKenna\, and M. Ward and collaborating with artists like Don Was\, Mikaela Davis\, and Madison Cunningham\, Jake Manzi is a songwriter to be reckoned with and a unique talent to be enjoyed. \n \nJake Manzi
