DESCRIPTION:Join us for a shock rock triple shot April 17th with Clamb\, Feep and Ohm Foam at the Lizard Lounge!\n\n\n\nCLAMB was born out of a Dadaist desire to create music free from societal norms of perfection. They dig deep into the groove of soulful American music from the infinite James Brown and Alice Coltrane to the aether of seventies European krautrock pioneers like Cluster and Harmonia to patiently sketch foreign landscapes from the ground up. Clamb are devoted to keeping an attitude of acceptance in their largely-improvised songs\, choosing a direction and exploring its corners and nuances to tell stories without words. \nClamb’s tonal palette features Peter Danilchuk’s synths blissfully wiggling through the air\, Jameson Stewart’s mythical gold-glitter-encrusted fretless bass sending terrestrial energy rippling through a rogue’s gallery of cheap pedals\, Joshua Merhar’s playful drumming that constantly eggs the band onward to new hemispheres of groove\, and in 2022 Clamb introduced guitar hero and best friend Sam Crawford whose tonal character and improvisational voice have propelled the band’s ensemble playing further into the fever-dream-realm than ever expected. Clamb hopes they have cornered the market on the Venn diagram intersection of 60s psych nerds raised on Soft Machine Volume 2 and their kids who have spent the past decade gorging on Brainfeeder and Meshuggah. It is Clamb’s distinct wish that each performance function as a Polaroid of the exact moment of its creation\, never to be repeated quite the same way ever again\, remaining both pensive yet hard-grooving all the same. \nCLAMB \n\n\nOhm Foam is instrumental psych rock from the depths of space\, channeled through three humans from earth: Charlie Gargano (guitar)\, Renee Goudreau (bass)\, and Billy Leva (drums). Laissez les bons temps rouler! \nFeaturing Jon McBride on soprano saxophone\, Ted Perry on piano\, Jesse Williams on bass\, and Dwight Ritcher on drums. \n \n\n\nEisenhower Brothers \nFrom The early days \, when Milt was producing and playing “coloring” guitar on Dwight&Nicole’s first album\, the whole crew living in the house over Rear Window Studio\, Dwight and Milt noticed they had a natural “weave” when the two guitars played together. That’s a word Keith Richard uses to describe what happens with him and Ron Wood. It’s a sympatico conversation between guitars\, finishing each other’s thoughts\, creating a whole\, just a wee bit larger than the sum of its’ parts. Turns out this is kinda rare to find\, and when you do find another player who hears it the same way you do\, then you’re onto something. The instruments can be the same\, or different\, f’rinstance a guitarist and a drummer. It’s a feel thing. Hard to describe\, but you know it when you feel it. So for years\, these two\, now living in different states\, still get the weave going whenever they can. We can’t say exactly what’s gonna happen at an Eisenhower Bros. session\, uncharted territory\, but it’ll probably feel pretty good. Why Eisenhower? Well\, Milt’s long run with Four Piece Suit digs deep into influences from the 1950s-60s\, somebody called it Eisenhower music. That era has become even rosier\, as it represents a decency in public life that has become increasingly elusive. Plus one of the guys is named Dwight\, and guess what! …”Ike” had a brother named Milton. And by an even more unlikely auspicious synchronicity\, Milton Eisenhower\, during his tenure as president of Johns Hopkins University\, was a mentor to a fledgling Freshman\, playing bass in an Acid Jazz band (before the term had been coined) for strippers on Baltimore’s notorious “Block”… Milt Reder. So full circle. Could be good…ya never know.

Or rather\, it had plenty of them before the band took sledgehammers and scalpels to most of the pretty bits. \n“It took a while to get the bones of some of the tunes down just so we could break them\,” bandleader James Rohr told Herald with a laugh. \nLocal champs the Blue Ribbons are a pop band in the same way that the Beatles or Steely Dan or Television are pop bands in that they like pop but “aren’t too precious about the songs\,” Rohr said. \nJed Gottleib – Boston Herald \n \nThe Blue Ribbons \n \n\n\nA short history of David Champagne. Around the turn of the 1980s\, he was in Shane Champagne\, which Trouser Press described as being like Graham Parker‘s band\, the Rumour. This group issued several singles. Alcott was also in Pink Cadillac\, “a sharp rockabilly-cum-rock’n’roll trio” that released one EP in 1983. \nIn Treat Her Right\, Champagne’s “tremulous slide guitar” provided part of the band’s distinctive quality\, as Nashville music journalist Robert K. Oermann put it People magazine wrote that Champagne mimicked the moaning vocal-slide guitar interplay that Robert Plant and Jimmy Page did so well in the early days of Led Zeppelin. DESCRIPTION:Join us May 14th for two great songwriters Eleanor Buckland and Chessa Rich\n\n\nEleanor Buckland made her start as one-third of Lula Wiles\, the Boston-based folk-rock trio that became an acoustic music scene favorite with their three critically hailed albums\, the most recent two released on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. Now living in Durham\, NC\, the singer songwriter has turned to a new page as a solo artist. Buckland’s debut album You Don’t Have To Know (released October 2021 on Soundly Music) sets her deeply personal songs against inventive indie rock arrangements. \nBorn and raised in Maine\, Buckland comes from a family full of musicians. Her grandmother\, Betty Buckland\, was prominent in the New England bluegrass scene\, while her father\, Andy Buckland\, played electric guitar in Boston area bands. Band members are Tommy Benedetti-drums\,Van Martin-guitar\,Johnny Trama-guitar\,Aaron Bellamy-bass\,and Timo Shanko-sax/bass. The band came together in 2007\, led by drummer Tommy Benedetti and guitarist\, Johnny Trama.Tommy Benedetti is one of the founding members of American Reggae Pioneers\,John Brown’s Body. He brings a wealth of experience from the reggae/dub scene to the table\,having recorded albums for the legendary Shanachie Label\,John Zorn’s Tzadik Label (mixed by Bill Laswell)\,and is currently with John Brown’s Body on Easy Star Records. This history is combined with almost 2 decades of International touring\,as well as backing some of the giants of Jamaican music\,including The Meditations and Justin Hinds. \n \nDub Apocalypse \n\n\nDana Colley is a saxophonist best known for playing the baritone saxophone in the guitarless\, low-rock band Morphine. Colley and Mark Sandman met in Boston and formed the band Morphine in 1989. The band’s unique setup featured a baritone sax\, a 2-string bass\, and drums. Morphine released multiple albums\, had a hit video on MTV\, and toured extensively. Tragically\, in 1999\, Mark Sandman suffered a heart attack and passed away while performing on stage. In response to this loss\, Colley and the remaining members of Morphine formed the 9-piece group known as Orchestra Morphine to promote the band’s final posthumous album\, titled “Night.” Colley went on form other successful groups including Twineman in 2001 with Laurie Sargent\, and A.K.A.C.O.D. in 2006 with bassist/songwriter Monique Ortiz. Throughout the years\, Colley has collaborated with various artists\, including the Alloy Orchestra\, Lee Renaldo\, Dub Apocalypse\, Club D’Elf\, and Les Claypool. Colley also continues to perform the music of Morphine\, with the band Vapors of Morphine.

He has been writing\, reciting and performing poetry/spoken word for nearly 20 years and has performed at several local spots as a feature and participant. He has poetically graced the same stage and opened up for such acts as Dead Prez\, S.O.S. Band\, Amiri Baraka\, Pharoahe Monch\, Suheir Hammad\, Lakeside\, New Birth\, Last Poets\, Les Nubians\, Saul Williams\, Jessica Care Moore\, Georgia ME\, Michel’le and other well-known artists. In addition to Massachusetts\, he has taken his poetry to cities and states such as New York (including the famous Nuyorican Poets Café)\, Atlanta\, Chicago\, Dallas\, Cleveland\, Baltimore\, Los Angeles\, and\, surprisingly\, Cuba\, where he met the legendary Assata Shakur. VCR is also the founder and cultural event organizer of BloodSkinLand Productions. From that umbrella\, he has created many annual gatherings which include Devotion\, Megacipher\, InFRESHstructure\, Afro-Cinema\, Maylennium\, Young Gifted & Black\, BomBARDed\, and the popular ongoing gathering called VerBaLizAtiOn\, which is currently the longest-running open mic spot in the Boston area of over 25 years. VCR’s debut CD entitled “Poetic Insanity”\, released in 2003. VCR has been nominated for Best Male Spoken Word Artist at the 2006 New England Urban Music Awards\, twice for Best Spoken Word Artist at the 2006 & 2007 M.I.C. Hip-Hop Awards and for Spoken Word Artist of the Year at the 2023 Boston Music Awards. In 2011\, he became one of many awardees of the NAACP Image Awards of the Boston chapter. In 2014\, VCR was awarded the Ralph F. Browne Jr. Juneteenth Incentive Award by the Boston Juneteenth Committee and the National Center of Afro-American Artists for creating and sustaining VerBaLizAtiOn. In 2024\, he was awarded the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Senate Official Citation (presented by Senator Liz Miranda) for the recognition of VerBaLizAtiOn’s 25 years of dedication. VCR’s “Kangaroo Joy” became the official poem for then Boston City Councilor At-Large and current Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley’s annually “Jump Into Peace” event. In addition to that\, he has also performed at the Congresswoman’s cultural arts swearing-in fundraiser with a poem entitled “Change Can’t Wait\,” – named after the slogan used by Pressley during her campaign. In 2022\, he has released his long-awaited poetry book entitled “Obsoletes & Upgrades”.
