DESCRIPTION:The Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam with featured poet Vernon C Robinson April 19th!\n\n\n$10  \nVCR (Vernon C. Robinson) is a Dorchester native born and raised in Boston. He has been writing\, reciting and performing poetry/spoken word for nearly 20 years and has performed at several local spots as a feature and participant. He has poetically graced the same stage and opened up for such acts as Dead Prez\, S.O.S. Band\, Amiri Baraka\, Pharoahe Monch\, Suheir Hammad\, Lakeside\, New Birth\, Last Poets\, Les Nubians\, Saul Williams\, Jessica Care Moore\, Georgia ME\, Michel’le and other well-known artists. In addition to Massachusetts\, he has taken his poetry to cities and states such as New York (including the famous Nuyorican Poets Café)\, Atlanta\, Chicago\, Dallas\, Cleveland\, Baltimore\, Los Angeles\, and\, surprisingly\, Cuba\, where he met the legendary Assata Shakur. VCR is also the founder and cultural event organizer of BloodSkinLand Productions. From that umbrella\, he has created many annual gatherings which include Devotion\, Megacipher\, InFRESHstructure\, Afro-Cinema\, Maylennium\, Young Gifted & Black\, BomBARDed\, and the popular ongoing gathering called VerBaLizAtiOn\, which is currently the longest-running open mic spot in the Boston area of over 25 years. VCR’s debut CD entitled “Poetic Insanity”\, released in 2003. VCR has been nominated for Best Male Spoken Word Artist at the 2006 New England Urban Music Awards\, twice for Best Spoken Word Artist at the 2006 & 2007 M.I.C. Hip-Hop Awards and for Spoken Word Artist of the Year at the 2023 Boston Music Awards. In 2011\, he became one of many awardees of the NAACP Image Awards of the Boston chapter. In 2014\, VCR was awarded the Ralph F. Browne Jr. Juneteenth Incentive Award by the Boston Juneteenth Committee and the National Center of Afro-American Artists for creating and sustaining VerBaLizAtiOn. In 2024\, he was awarded the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Senate Official Citation (presented by Senator Liz Miranda) for the recognition of VerBaLizAtiOn’s 25 years of dedication. VCR’s “Kangaroo Joy” became the official poem for then Boston City Councilor At-Large and current Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley’s annually “Jump Into Peace” event. In addition to that\, he has also performed at the Congresswoman’s cultural arts swearing-in fundraiser with a poem entitled “Change Can’t Wait\,” – named after the slogan used by Pressley during her campaign. In 2022\, he has released his long-awaited poetry book entitled “Obsoletes & Upgrades”. DESCRIPTION:Join us May 28th for Adrienne Mack Davis with NMDA & Isabelle Rose live at the Lizard Lounge!\n\n\n$10/$15 door  \nDoors 7 \nAdrienne Mack-Davis is a classically trained singer/songwriter originally from Rochester\, NY. She emanates positivity and self love with hard hitting Soul/RnB melodies fused with infectious Hip Hop\, Dance and Pop instrumentals. \nShe has traveled the world performing over 1700 live shows both nationally and internationally opening and collaborating with the likes of Dead Prez\, Talib Kweli\, Rakim\, and KRS-One to name a few.  She has participated in over 50 service workshops in over 9 countries on such topics such as anti-human trafficking\, entrepreneurship\, creative arts and women’s empowerment including taking part in the Artist Envoy Program via the United States Embassy in 2023.  \nAs a child she gravitated towards music naturally and would sing whenever she had the chance. While in band class as a middle schooler her adored music teacher heard her belting out classical riffs that she had heard at home as her mother always played a lot of opera music during her upbringing. She exclaimed “What are you doing in band class with a voice like that?!” and promptly took Adrienne on as a vocal student in her 6th grade year and further connected her to study with Renee Fleming’s mother Patricia Alexander through the Eastman School of Music’s Young Adults Program. There she would receive training for the next 4 years alongside still more private lessons with the great American Bassist Thomas Paul.  \nAdrienne never felt like the typical American soprano that her family and mentors saw she had the potential to be and she was driven to explore for herself what the world had in store for her voice and her purpose in music. Upon receiving a call back for the highly successful Broadway show Rent on Broadway during her senior year of high school Adrienne decided to move to NYC the summer after graduating at the age of 18. For the next several years Adrienne explored the possibilities of her creativity\, crossing paths with many different styles of music as well as other artists. This broadened her range even more and at the age of 22 Adrienne decided to finally pursue a degree in music from SUNY Purchase in upstate NY. There she would participate in their opera program for only her freshman year of conservatory before transferring to the Studio Composition department where she would ultimately find her true voice and love for her own original sound.  \nAMD has been a featured artist on major festivals like SXSW\, A3C\, Bridge Fest\, Hue Fest\, Grassroots and more. She has been featured on the SoFar Sounds Live series and has the versatility that allows her to play to a large spectrum of different performance spaces. \nBased currently in the New England area she performs with her own solo band as well as with Harsh a well known Seacoast RnB/Soul experience. AMD is a one of a kind performer and provides an experience that you won’t soon forget. Check out her newest single “Marshmallow”and her 2023 project entitled “Healer” out now on all streaming platforms. \nAdrienne Mack Davis  \n\n\nNMDA and Isabelle Rose are a soul funk-tronic duo out of Denver\, CO and New Haven\, CT. DESCRIPTION:Kami Lyle and Friends featuring Joey Spampinato and Melvern Taylor and his Fabulous Meltones live at the Lizard Lounge May 30th!\n\n\n“Trumpet or Girl Scouts\, pick one.” And so\, on her ninth birthday\, Kami Lyle waved goodbye to the scouts and bolted for the Schmitt’s music store in Minneapolis\, MN. \n​Acceptance into the Berklee College of Music took her to Boston\, where she discovered she also loved singing and songwriting. \nShe graduated and relocated to Nashville\, TN\, where she enjoyed writing\, performing at The Bluebird\, and doing jingles/session work. A buzz grew quickly and soon she had a co-publishing deal (Criterion Music Corp.) and a recording contract (MCA/Universal Music). \nKami’s first album\, Blue Cinderella\, produced by Hugh Padgham (Sting\, Melissa Etheridge\, Phil Collins) put her on VH1 with the single “Polka Dots” and was well-received by critics and fans alike. \nShe loved Nashville but it didn’t have an ocean\, so she moved to Cape Cod. Her underwater IPod is currently bursting with Lizzo\, Tom Waits\, Carole King\, Stevie Wonder\, Chet Baker and NRBQ.Kami is passionate about songwriting and has enjoyed teaching privately and also at Steve Earle’s Camp Copperhead. Through his platform\, performances\, and curation\, Bidon has helped shape and inspire a generation of poets across Connecticut and beyond. \nHis recent work includes The George Stinney Project (2023)\, in collaboration with Jacque’s Bidon and Marcos A. The line up for this show features Lyle Brewer (guitar)\, Mister Rourke (turntables)\, Paul Shulteis (Keys) Mike Rivard (bass & sintir) and Dean Johnston (drums). \nWhat begins as a groove in Club d’Elf’s world often becomes a doorway into someplace older\, stranger and unshackled by time.The band has spent twenty seven years helping audiences lose track of time with its shape-shifting fusion of Moroccan trance\, dub\, electronica\, jazz and improvised funk. Built around bassist and composer Mike Rivard\, each performance features a rotating cast drawn from Boston\, New York and beyond\, creating a constantly shifting ecosystem where trance forms the central core of the band’s aesthetic. Under the tutelage of longtime member and Casablanca native Brahim Fribgane\, the group absorbed Moroccan trance music deeply into its DNA. Fribgane passed away in early 2024\, but his spirit remains embedded in the band’s sound\, especially through Rivard’s commanding sintir work\, learned under the guidance of Fribgane and Gnawa masters Hassan Hakmoun and Mahmoud Guinia. \nTheir new album\, Loon and Thrush (released 4/10/26)\, recorded entirely live in the studio with minimal overdubs\, channels that lineage into a raw\, improvisatory flight. Previewing the band’s no-holds-barred live show\, The New Yorker said “Between the fiddle\, string bass\, drums and slide guitar\, you won’t know what hit you.” \nLed by songwriter Michael Tarbox\, the group also features violinist Daniel Kellar and the hard-hitting rhythm section of string-bassist Johnny Sciascia and drummer Jon Cohan Kellar’s mesmerizing solos\, and Tarbox’s barbed-wire guitar\, give the band its edge.
