SUMMARY:Jon McBride's Big Easy Feat Ryan Montbleau With The Eisenhower Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Jon McBride’s Big Easy returns to the Lizard Lounge featuring Ryan Montbleau and with special guests The Eisenhower Brothers April 23rd!\n\n\n$15 adv/$20 door \n7 doors \n \nJon McBride’s Big Easy traverses the roots of funk music–early jazz\, blues\, gospel\, and Caribbean styles–playing songs that have entertained audiences for generations\, and exciting fans across many genres\, bringing raw talent and irresistible swing to contemporary roots music. Laissez les bons temps rouler! \nFeaturing Jon McBride on soprano saxophone\, Ryan Montbleau on vocals Ted Perry on piano\, Jesse Williams on bass\, and Dwight Ritcher on drums. \n \n\n\nEisenhower Brothers \nFrom The early days \, when Milt was producing and playing “coloring” guitar on Dwight&Nicole’s first album\, the whole crew living in the house over Rear Window Studio\, Dwight and Milt noticed they had a natural “weave” when the two guitars played together. That’s a word Keith Richard uses to describe what happens with him and Ron Wood. It’s a sympatico conversation between guitars\, finishing each other’s thoughts\, creating a whole\, just a wee bit larger than the sum of its’ parts. Turns out this is kinda rare to find\, and when you do find another player who hears it the same way you do\, then you’re onto something. The instruments can be the same\, or different\, f’rinstance a guitarist and a drummer. It’s a feel thing. Hard to describe\, but you know it when you feel it. So for years\, these two\, now living in different states\, still get the weave going whenever they can. We can’t say exactly what’s gonna happen at an Eisenhower Bros. session\, uncharted territory\, but it’ll probably feel pretty good. Why Eisenhower? Well\, Milt’s long run with Four Piece Suit digs deep into influences from the 1950s-60s\, somebody called it Eisenhower music. That era has become even rosier\, as it represents a decency in public life that has become increasingly elusive. Plus one of the guys is named Dwight\, and guess what! …”Ike” had a brother named Milton. And by an even more unlikely auspicious synchronicity\, Milton Eisenhower\, during his tenure as president of Johns Hopkins University\, was a mentor to a fledgling Freshman\, playing bass in an Acid Jazz band (before the term had been coined) for strippers on Baltimore’s notorious “Block”… Milt Reder. So full circle. Could be good…ya never know.

SUMMARY:Blue Ribbons/David Champagne Live at the Lizard Lounge
DESCRIPTION:The Blue Ribbons return to the Lizard Lounge with David Champagne April 25th!\n\n\n$15/$20 \nDoors 7 \n \n“The Blue Ribbons’ latest album\, 2024’s “Forever\, But Not For Long\,” has plenty of pop hooks. Or rather\, it had plenty of them before the band took sledgehammers and scalpels to most of the pretty bits. \n“It took a while to get the bones of some of the tunes down just so we could break them\,” bandleader James Rohr told Herald with a laugh. \nLocal champs the Blue Ribbons are a pop band in the same way that the Beatles or Steely Dan or Television are pop bands in that they like pop but “aren’t too precious about the songs\,” Rohr said. \nJed Gottleib – Boston Herald \n \nThe Blue Ribbons \n \n\n\nA short history of David Champagne. Pre-internet in the band Treat Her Right. 2000s backing up wife in the band The Heygoods. Next decade Agnostic Gospel. Current project Sunset Engine with Elizabeth Steen and Jude Heichelbech. Go to agnostic gospel at band camp to hear music from any of these combos. \nAfter spending time in New York and California\, he moved to Boston\, Massachusetts\, where he became a longtime fixture on the local music scene. Around the turn of the 1980s\, he was in Shane Champagne\, which Trouser Press described as being like Graham Parker‘s band\, the Rumour. This group issued several singles. Alcott was also in Pink Cadillac\, “a sharp rockabilly-cum-rock’n’roll trio” that released one EP in 1983. \nIn Treat Her Right\, Champagne’s “tremulous slide guitar” provided part of the band’s distinctive quality\, as Nashville music journalist Robert K. Oermann put it People magazine wrote that Champagne mimicked the moaning vocal-slide guitar interplay that Robert Plant and Jimmy Page did so well in the early days of Led Zeppelin. That article also noted how Champagne and Mark Sandman wrote “bona-fide bad luck songs with a wink.” \nDave Champagne \nAgnostic Gospel

SUMMARY:Invincible Casuals/Dinty Child/Grandpa/Blush
DESCRIPTION:The Invincible Casuals return to the Lizard Lounge April 30th with Dinty Child\, Grandpa and a cameo by Blush making their Cambridge debut!\n\n\n$15/$20 door \nDoors 7 \nFounded by Chandler Travis\, Steve Shook\, and Rikki Bates in 1980\, the Incredible Casuals were something of a New England legend until they disbanded in 2013. Their first full-length album\, “That’s That”\, was released on England’s Demon label in 1986 and on Rounder in the U.S. the following year (following a handful of singles on NRBQ’s Red Rooster label\, the arrival of later NRBQ guitarist Johnny Spampinato\, and the departure of guitarist Shook\, later replaced by Aaron Spade.) The original Casuals produced five more “official” full-length releases\, along with a score of homemade efforts and a 2007 “Best Of” collection\, and toured extensively in the U.S.\, Europe\, and in Japan\, where many of their albums have been re-released.After about ten years of turning down requests to regroup\, Travis\, Bates\, and longtime Casual Steve “Woo Woo” Wood got together in the summer of 2023 to play a memorial show for their fallen colleague Aaron Spade\, who died in June\, 2023\, and enjoyed reviving their repertoire so much that they decided it might be something that somehow really still needs doing\, and voila\, the Invincible Casuals were (re-)born\, much to the delight of a surprisingly large flock of fans who never gave up (including a goodly throng of “Casualties” who never missed a Sunday of their thirty-plus year run at the Wellfleet Beachcomber\, their home bar on Cape Cod.) \n“The Casuals make a vintage guitar-driven noise laced with cool Brit-pop hooks and harmonies not unlike NRBQ but with a hint of Replacements-style corrosion…”- David Fricke\, Rolling Stone \nInvincible Casuals \n\n\nDinty is a longtime member of the Boston roots/folk scene. A fearless multi-instrumentalist and great songwriter\, he can most often be seen with the band Session Americana\, as well as the Chandler Travis Philharmonic\, the unapologetically loud and grimy Catbirds\, as sensitive sideman to any number of singer/songwriters\, including Rose Cousins and Kris Delmhorst\, and even fronting the twenty piece party band\, the Funky White Honkies. \nDinty Child \n\n\nGrandpa is a neo-Pagan existentialist psychedelic folk duo with Casuals guitarist Steve “Woo Woo” Wood and singer Ginger Lund\,

SUMMARY:Tarbox Ramblers
DESCRIPTION:The legendary Tarbox Ramblers original lineup live at the Lizard Lounge May 9th!\n\n\n$20 adv/$25 door \n$60 Reserved Table for 2 \nDoors 7 \n \nThe Tarbox Ramblers’ sound is rooted in hillbilly music\, backwater blues and early rock ‘n’ roll. It’s rough-hewn\, dark and joyous\, and unfailingly direct. Previewing the band’s no-holds-barred live show\, The New Yorker said “Between the fiddle\, string bass\, drums and slide guitar\, you won’t know what hit you.” \nLed by songwriter Michael Tarbox\, the group also features violinist Daniel Kellar and the hard-hitting rhythm section of string-bassist Johnny Sciascia and drummer Jon Cohan. Kellar’s mesmerizing solos\, and Tarbox’s barbed-wire guitar\, give the band its edge. The combination of Sciascia’s percussive rockabilly style and Cohan’s New Orleans parade drums is its secret sauce. \nThe Tarbox Ramblers have released two albums on the Rounder label\, played clubs and festivals throughout The US and Canada\, and worked with heroes like Robert Plant\, Allison Krauss and legendary producer Jim Dickinson. \nTarbox Ramblers

SUMMARY:Eleanor Buckland and Chessa Rich Live at the Lizard Lounge.
DESCRIPTION:Join us May 14th for two great songwriters Eleanor Buckland and Chessa Rich\n\n\nEleanor Buckland made her start as one-third of Lula Wiles\, the Boston-based folk-rock trio that became an acoustic music scene favorite with their three critically hailed albums\, the most recent two released on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. Now living in Durham\, NC\, the singer songwriter has turned to a new page as a solo artist. Buckland’s debut album You Don’t Have To Know (released October 2021 on Soundly Music) sets her deeply personal songs against inventive indie rock arrangements. \nBorn and raised in Maine\, Buckland comes from a family full of musicians. Her grandmother\, Betty Buckland\, was prominent in the New England bluegrass scene\, while her father\, Andy Buckland\, played electric guitar in Boston area bands. It’s not surprising then that someone who grew up playing bluegrass fiddle music as well as singing along to Michelle Branch and Sheryl Crow in the car would wind up with varied musical tastes – something Buckland clearly demonstrates on her solo debut and in her live shows. \n \n“Buckland’s folksy drawl plays perfectly with this fresh set of pop tunes that are seemingly built for fans of contemporary FM radio acts like Kacey Musgraves and Taylor Swift\, both nostalgically rustic and immediately modern.” – WBUR \n \n“Eleanor Buckland’s bracing blend of beautiful songs and perceptive honesty\, seasoned with a dash of hope\, is ultimately reassuring\, and a little uplift is always welcome.” – No Depression \nEleanor Buckland \n\n\nChessa Rich is a NC-raised musician based in Durham. Her informed rule-breaking songwriting is steeped in a past of musical collaboration and a gentle persistence to discover oneself in community. Rich is a versatile collaborator\, performing with Hiss Golden Messenger\, Tift Merritt\, and Skylar Gudasz as well as recording with producer Nick Sanborn (Sylvan Esso\, Made of Oak) and Shane Leonard (Anna Tivel\, Mipso). Her full-length debut “Deeper Sleeper” is out now on Carrboro\, NC’s Sleepy Cat Records. \nChessa Rich

SUMMARY:The Powhida Infirmary/Sidewalk Driver
DESCRIPTION:Nonpareil rocker John Powhida celebrates his 60th with The Powhida Infirmary making their Lizard debut and glam faves Sidewalk Driver!\n\n\n$15/20 doors \nDoors 7 \nJohn Powhida’s newest rock send-up The Powhida Infirmary includes fellow inpatients Mike Gent (The Figgs\, Graham Parker) on drums\, Rick Cohen (Brian Wilson Band) on keys\, and John Sheeran (Township\, Nat Freedberg) on bass. A fixture of Boston music since 2000\, Powhida is the erstwhile frontman for the beloved Rudds and the one-time pilot of the John Powhida Airport International. The Albany native has garnered several Boston Music Awards\, won the WBCN Rock ‘n Roll Rumble in 2011\, and has performed with Graham Parker\, Peter Wolf\, Todd Rundgren\, and the Nazz. The Infirmary is working on their forthcoming debut—due in the summer of 2026\, it’s a bit of an art-rock fever dream\, a little injection of disco-pop\, and anything but prescriptive. Whatever ails you\, the Infirmary will cure. \nPowhida Infirmary \n\n\nThe music of Sidewalk Driver is high energy\, highly infectious\, hook-driven Rock with a capital ‘R.’ The sound is modern\, but the heart of the band seems to be more in line with 1970s rock culture… the Bowies and the Belushis of the world. Lead singer Tad McKitterick’s voice has power and clarity\, is expressive without falling off the pitch and is forceful without losing subtle moments. Guitarists Kate Murdoch and Jared Egan seamlessly weave crunchy rhythms with soaring solos\, while bassist Jonn Smith and drummer A.J. Locke hold down the bottom end. The songs always come with some odd bent but not one that repels; rather\, they welcome you to join in the celebration like a carnival barker hyping a freak show. \nSidewalk Driver has opened for an eclectic blend of national acts—including Bon Jovi\, The B-52s\, Spacehog\, Twenty One Pilots\, Andrew W.K.\, and Electric Six—winning over a wide variety of audiences with each performance by injecting humor and fun into their high-octane rock show. \nSidewalk Driver

SUMMARY:Thelma and the Sleaze/Julie Rhodes
DESCRIPTION:Nashville’s Thelma and the Sleaze share the stage with hometown hero Julie Rhodes for a special matinee May 17th at 2 o’clock.\n\n\n$20/$25 door \nDoors 1 \n \nThelma and the Sleaze is an independent all-female\, queer southern rock band from Nashville\, Tennessee. \nLG is the embodiment of hustle. As the driving force behind Thelma and The Sleaze\, she is the songwriter\, the visionary\, the take-no-shit-from-anyone front woman that is single handedly keeping rock and roll alive. Thelma and The Sleaze has been touring the US for years building a legion of fans\, affectionally called her creepers. The growing social media presence\, the hit podcast\, the features with Yamaha Guitars are really all the result of her incredible songwriting\, visceral guitar playing\, and the guts to deliver on her vision of what Rock and Roll should be. The people have noticed – having pre-sold nearly half of the first pressing of Fuck\, Marry\, Kill in two days!! \nFuck\, Marry\, Kill is the culmination of years of breaking down\, building up\, and growing their sound. After the disintegration of their old line-up and pulling together new bandmates\, LG has been touring with them almost nonstop with over 100 shows in 2019. One of the highlights of the tour were two sold out shows supporting Grammy Nominee Brittany Howard. \nAmidst all the touring\, the band was able to track Fuck\, Marry\, Kill in Nashville\, produced by LG with Mixing and Mastering by Jim Kissling in Detroit (King Tuff\, Ex Hex\, The Go). Inspirations for this album pull from 80’s metal\, Robert Palmer\, Eddie Money\, Depeche Mode\, and early Rock and Roll. \nHaving performed with acts like Eagles of Death Metal\, The Coathangers\, Birdcloud\, Burmuda Triangle\, and Charles Bradley\, Thelma and The Sleaze have long established themselves as one of the best touring bands out there. Having signed on to The What of Whom for the release of their next record\, Fuck\, Marry\, Kill\, they have also released music through the likes of Burger Records and Third Man Records. \nThelma and the Sleaze \n\n\n\nBoston native Julie Rhodes musical career started “on a whim”. After singing along in the audience at a house show\, she was given some words of encouragement to write her own songs. That night\, she began writing her first song and before long she was recording her debut album with producer Jonah Tolchin. She released Bound to Meet the Devil in 2016 and it’s clear this powerhouse vocalist/songwriter is an artist on the rise. \nhttps://www.julierhodesmusic.com/

SUMMARY:Ward Hayden & The Outliers-Bruce Springsteen Pre Party w/Nic Panken
DESCRIPTION:The music of Bruce Springsteen done Outliers style May 21st at the Lizard Lounge with special guest Nic Panken!\n\n\n$60 Reserved Table for 2 \n$25/$30 GA \nDoors at 7 \nThis album has been two years in the making and was born with the idea of balancing the scale. Following one of Massachusetts most notable Country artists directing their audience NOT to listen to Bruce Springsteen….Ward Hayden & the Outliers decided the best way to offset that negativity was to do something positive and delve into Springsteen’s epic catalog. Taking that journey with all its nostalgia\, appreciation\, and creativity is unequivocally positive. This album plays like a thank you note to The Boss\, one that will resonate with Springsteen and Outliers fans alike. \nThis collection of songs was chosen from the soundtrack to many people’s lives who grew up in the 70s\, 80s\, & 90s. These are the songs that played while you hung out in your friend’s kitchen\, watched TV in your living room\, drove your car home from school\, or when you partied on the weekends. These songs earned their place in our lives\, they’ve been there for us\, they’ve been along for the ride. \nWard Hayden & the Outliers NEW album “Little by Little” has taken the songwriting of Bruce Springsteen\, channeled it through their country music filled hearts and minds\, resulting in something extraordinary and unique. It’s The Boss done Outliers-style. It’s the music that’s been our crutch to lean on\, our shoulder to cry on\, and the words that we sing out with joy at the top of our lungs. It’s the music that taught us to love music\, the music that makes us want to keep making more music\, and it’s meant to be shared. May 22nd & 23rd come celebrate the album release of “Little By Little” by Ward Hayden & The Outliers. \n \nWard Hayden & The Outliers \n\n\nNic Panken understands the perseverance of art and its intentions to ground and inspire us. He sees how melodies ruminate deep in the belly of uncertainty\, blossoming to bring fresh clarity and a whispering optimism. Over the years\, the Brooklyn-born songwriter has endeavored to spread the invigorating presence of song\, initially through fronting the Americana-folk group Spirit Family Reunion and now\, through his own evolution as a solo artist. Panken strives for equilibrium and purpose\, and it’s through his gorgeously sensitive yet gutsy delivery that an exhale can be found\, away from our amplified anxieties and collective mourning. \nNow residing in Kingston\, NY\, Panken divides his time outside of music-making between working as a puppeteer\, hosting his weekly radio show\, and mixing sound at beloved local venue Tubby’s. By immersing himself in the restorative power of the arts\, every day is decorated with the potential to be present; to find new meaning and community through his various\, purposeful practices. After years of relentless touring with Spirit Family Reunion\, Panken found solace in staying still\, and it’s in this shift that he began crafting what would become his new body of work. \n \nNic Panken
