SUMMARY:Void Union Featuring Dave Hillyard of the Slackers wsg The Euphoralites
DESCRIPTION:Void Union live at the Lizard Lounge with Dave Hillyard of the Slackers\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n \nBoston’s Void Union has spent the past 15 years unassumingly building a reputation as one of the best ensembles in the Ska/Reggae genre. Initially conceived as an instrumental project\, with occasional vocal guests\, the band has morphed into a showcase of Jamaican Jazz expertise but with the powerhouse soul/reggae vocals of\, longtime local workaholic\, Riki Rocksteady. For their one night engagement at Lizard Lounge\, VU enlists David Hillyard; founding Saxophonist of Brooklyn’s legendary The Slackers\, and auteur of his own Dave Hillyard and the Rocksteady 7. Dave has one of the most recognizable tones in any genre\, but also brings a unique compositional voice to his own instrumental tunes\, which will pepper the set list of Void Union originals and Jamaican standards with an extra dose of NYC cool. \n \nhttp://voidunion.com/

SUMMARY:Brian Dunne with Jessye DeSilva the Lizard Lounge
DESCRIPTION:Brian Dunne performs live at the Lizard Lounge!\n\n\nBrian Dunne is not your grandma’s antiseptic\, pseudo baby boomer singer songwriter. Known for his laugh-to-keep-from-crying\, darkly humorous lyrics\, Dunne’s work reconfigures the limiting nature of the genre into something less cotton candy young love\, more burn down the banks. This DIY ethos\, born from a healthy New York cynicism self-conceptualized\, funded\, and dragged to every willing venue\, found an easy home at Kill Rock Stars along the likes of The Decemberists\, Jeff Hanson\, and Sleater- Kinney. Releasing his fourth album in early 2023\, his first on KRS\, Dunne is bending the sounds of American rock into masterfully composed\, existentially poignant\, wildly catchy renderings of being alive. \nhttps://www.briandunnemusic.net/ \n\n\nJessye DeSilva (she/they) seamlessly blends theatrical pop elements with folk and roots music to form her piano-driven alt-americana sound. They infuse hope into songs about religious trauma\, mental health struggles\, and societal injustice to create a uniquely queer and unholy ruckus. Jessye’s latest album Renovations received press from No Depression\, Rolling Stone\, The Boot\, and NPR. No Depression has said of Jessye “Comparisons to Elton John and Brandi Carlile are easy — DeSilva clearly takes a page from these idols\, anchoring their songs in pop melody juggernauts\, gauzy textures\, and vocal bravado.” American Songwriter has said that her “catalog doesn’t skimp on razor-sharp lyrics\, paired frequently with an almost ethereal vocal\,” and Nashville Scene named Jessye a 2023 Artist To Watch\, saying “DeSilva could inject new life into a genre that could definitely use a little more pretzel logic.” \nhttps://jessyedmusic.com/

SUMMARY:Fall Raye
DESCRIPTION:Fall celebrates the release of “Fall” collection of improvised music and original compositions which explore the themes of being transgender\n\n\nFall Raye (they/them) is a trans/non-binary saxophonist\, improviser\, and composer living in Boston MA. Their work revolves around the trans experience in the US\, interpersonal relationships\, and opposing oppressive global systems. Fall grew up in Las Vegas\, NV\, and began studying music at 12 years old\, playing woodwinds\, piano\, and drums. They began playing professionally in the area at 16\, eventually leaving to study at the Eastman School of Music from 2018-2019\, transferred to Berklee College of Music and graduated in 2023. Fall has appeared on multiple albums\, including Naomi Nakanishi’s ‘Hear Me Speak’ and Raul Molina’s ‘Matria.’ Fall has had the mentorship of many incredible musicians\, including Terri Lyne Carrington\, Kris Davis\, Godwin Louis\, Tony Malaby\, Leo Genovese\, Walter Smith III\, and Miguel Zenon. Fallhas also performed concerts with Miguel Zenon and Elena Pinderhuges\, as well as spent a month in Italy performing concerts for the Sounds of Freedom music residency. Fall’s self-titled debut album will be released January 18th on Boomslang Records. \nIn Fall’s artistic vision is to create work that speaks from their own experiences as a trans person\, as a person healing from their own traumas\, and through their interpersonal relationships\, to create a listening experience where the audience can feel less alone\, seen\, and in community with others. Through vulnerability through creative and improvised music\, Fall aims to create a unique musical experience every time they play\, to explore new avenues in music and to reflect the improvisatory nature of living on Earth. Fall’s music connects to their breath\, heartbeat\, and nature\, making every spontaneous composition a living body of sound. Fall’s work is a direct call to dismantle systems of oppression and exploitation\, and provides a lens through which we can see a vision of a society where we all are truly valued and taken care of. \nhttps://fraye2.wixsite.com/fallraye

SUMMARY:Baker Thomas Band w/ Special Guest Sarah Borges and Keith Voegele
DESCRIPTION:A longtime TOAD favorite\, the Baker Thomas Band live at the Lizard Lounge!\n\n\nWhether it’s the infectious grooves\, hooks\, horns\, heartbreakers or anthemic rock finale’s\, Baker Thomas Band invokes a spectrum of high spirits and feeds the soul like a night out with good friends should. \n \nBeginning on stage at TOAD in Cambridge\, MA in 2009\, BTB is an eclectic collection of musicians and good friends getting together to make great music and have a blast! \n \n“After years of being a singer/songwriter/solo bassist\, the one thing I missed the most was the raw energy and power of a band. All my roots are from rock and roll…. being a soloist was a serious departure from that\,” Tom says. Baker Thomas Band or “BTB” was not intended to be as big as it is now. The original line up was drums\, bass\, guitar\, keyboard and trombone. From that humble 5 we’ve grown and now the band is rarely less than 9 or 10 artists with a full horn section and percussion section as well.” BTB has been a blast and hearing my songs interpreted through so many talented artists is a dream come true!” – Tom “The Baker” Bianchi \nBaker Thomas Band \n \n\n\nOne way or another\, Sarah Borges connects with casual mastery. Whether it’s with the comrades she’s collaborated with over nearly 20 sparkling years of music-making\, or the vivid portraits of people’s lives – and occasionally her own – she’s sketched in scores of emotionally resonant songs. But most of all\, Borges has built a loyal following by connecting\, through her own charismatic\, down-to-earth spirit\, with her audience – whether they’re longtime fans from back when she broke through with her terrific “Silver City” debut in 2004\, or newcomers just now joining the party. \nhttps://sarahborges.com/ \n\n\nKeith Voegele has played bass as a member of Americana heroes the Bottle Rockets for more than a decade\, and has toured with the likes of Eric ‘Roscoe’ Ambel and Marshall Crenshaw. His more than twenty year career spans genres\, from metal to pop to outlaw country\,

SUMMARY:Allie Dunn/Stephanie James/Olivia Lowe
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an epic night of music\, laughter\, and dance with the incredible duo Allie Dunn and Stephanie James on January 24\, 2024!\n\n\n… Allie Dunn believed her path was initially to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a doctor. However\, after her sophomore year of college she decided to take a leap of faith to pursue her musical dreams. Dunn has always drawn musical inspiration from many sources\, but mainly the Laurel Canyon classic-folk-pop-singer-songwriters she’s admired her whole life: From discovering the Eagles via her parents record collection in her teenage bedroom to listening to the same records over and over in her dorm room in New York City\, the music she loved gave her the courage to make the leap to full-time musician\, leaving a potentially fulfilling and stable career option behind. With her EP Good As Gone under her belt\, Dunn is approaching a new era of “retro pop” music starting with her latest single\, “Old Soul.” \nhttps://alliedunn.com \n\n\nRecording artist Stephanie James breathes new life to pop music\, blending the smoothness of jazz singers and classic country singers with her honey-coated voice. With songs ranging from heartstring-tugging ballads to uplifting songs that leave a lasting impression on audiences. Stephanie has established herself in the heart of the music industry performing at venues from coast to coast including Hotel Cafe in LA\, Rockwood Music Hall in NYC\, and Brighton Music Hall in Boston. \n \nA powerhouse of a performer\, Stephanie has been likened to legends like Linda Ronstadt\, as well as mega-talents of today such as Sara Bareilles and Kacey Musgraves. Whether in intimate rooms or packed venues\, Stephanie connects deeply with her audience in ways that elicit both tears and celebration. \nhttps://www.stephaniejamesmusic.com/home

\nBeginning on stage at TOAD in Cambridge\, MA in 2009\, BTB is an eclectic collection of musicians and good friends getting together to make great music and have a blast! \n“After years of being a singer/songwriter/solo bassist\, the one thing I missed the most was the raw energy and power of a band. All my roots are from rock and roll…. being a soloist was a serious departure from that\,” Tom says. Baker Thomas Band or “BTB” was not intended to be as big as it is now. The original line up was drums\, bass\, guitar\, keyboard and trombone. From that humble 5 we’ve grown and now the band is rarely less than 9 or 10 artists with a full horn section and percussion section as well.” BTB has been a blast and hearing my songs interpreted through so many talented artists is a dream come true!” – Tom “The Baker” Bianchi \nBaker Thomas Band
