SUMMARY:Dub Apocalypse feat Mister Rourke
DESCRIPTION:Dub Apocolypse returns to the Lizard Lounge with Mister Rourke!\n\n\nEvent is 21+$20/$25 door \nDoors at 8 \nDub Apocalypse is an instrumental dub reggae band from Boston\, MA. Band members are Tommy Benedetti-drums\,Van Martin-guitar\,Johnny Trama-guitar\,Aaron Bellamy-bass\,and Timo Shanko-sax/bass. The band came together in 2007\, led by drummer Tommy Benedetti and guitarist\, Johnny Trama.Tommy Benedetti is one of the founding members of American Reggae Pioneers\,John Brown’s Body. He brings a wealth of experience from the reggae/dub scene to the table\,having recorded albums for the legendary Shanachie Label\,John Zorn’s Tzadik Label (mixed by Bill Laswell)\,and is currently with John Brown’s Body on Easy Star Records. This history is combined with almost 2 decades of International touring\,as well as backing some of the giants of Jamaican music\,including The Meditations and Justin Hinds. \nGuitarist Johnny Trama adds a soulful blues touch to the Dub Apocalypse signature sound.Trama has spent time on the road with the great Ron Levy\, BB King’s organ player\, as well as many other regional rock and soul/r&b acts. Not long after Dub Apocalypse came together\, longtime friend Timo Shanko entered the fold.A dual threat on both bass and saxophone\,Shanko is a veteran of the blues and free jazz scene. He spent many years on the road with Blues legend\, Eddie Kirkland\, as well as with G. Love and Special Sauce. Shanko is also a prolific composer\,and his improvisational stylings are an integral part of the Dub Apocalypse sound. Although DA started out as more of a collective\,in the past few years the lineup has solidified with the addition of bassist Aaron Bellamy and guitarist Van Martin. Bellamy is a longtime fixture in the Boston funk scene\,and in combination with Benedetti \,they form the deep\,militant sound at the core of Dub Apocalypse. \nOriginally hailing from Chicago\,Van Martin rounds out the lineup on guitar. Martin has much touring experience as well\, including appearances with Bernie Worrell and Big Daddy Kane. His sonic textures\,adventurous playing and songwriting have helped Dub Apocalypse take their sound to a new level. The DA sound is an evolving mix of original compositions and their own interpretations of classic Jamaican and UK songs and dub plates. Heavy hitting drum and bass grooves set the table. A twin guitar attack\, with Trama’s rhythmic anchor\,and Martin’s dub sonics\, swirl in and out in tandem. These pieces\, combined with Timo Shanko’s Coltrane inspired sax approach\, give Dub Apocalypse a

Drummer David Moore\, bassist Greg Toro\, and woodwind multi-instrumentalist Joe Albano have been performing with each other in various ensembles since the early 2000’s\, and have developed a unique chemistry\, only possible through the range of music the trio has played together. SUMMARY:Eugene Tyler Band/Cannon Rogers/lighthearted
DESCRIPTION:Eugene Tyler Band with Cannon Rogers and lighthearted live at the Lizard Lounge Oct 23rd.\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n$15/$18 door \nDoors at 7 \n Indie-bluegrass trio Eugene Tyler Band is\, at their core\, a road band\, who’ve spent years cutting their teeth on the bluegrass festival circuit and clubs across the northeast. Their newest record\, Low It Goes\, captures the free-wheeling intensity of those live shows and showcases the cathartic\, irreverent songwriting that has won them fans all over the country. As songwriter Eugene Gardner says\, “You learn a lot about yourself as a band when you’re playing 3 hours a night\, and it’s forced us to step up our game in a way that I’m really proud of.” Sharing stages with bands like Billy Strings\, the Kitchen Dwellers\, Driftwood\, and the Mountain Grass Unit\, ETB has carved out a unique voice in the bluegrass scene\, with cutting\, often humorous songs\, and a fast & loose approach that calls back to influences like the Clash and Drive-By Truckers.  \nhttps://www.eugenetylerband.com/ \n\n\nBorn and raised in northwest Georgia and making his home in the musical oasis of Athens\, Cannon Rogers is the product of the generational sea change in the South. Acutely concerned with his place in post-modern America as an individual and an artist\, Rogers holds a degree in American Literature from the University of Georgia where he studied William Faulkner and Southern literature extensively while immersing himself in the Athens\,GA \nmusic scene. As inspired by Flannery O’Connor as he is Lucinda Williams\, Rogers works to weave the music and art that he loves into the stories he tells from dive bar stages across the country. His first release\, “Abel’s Blues” is steeped in the modern southern gothic tradition: there are drunk drivers\, traveling dealers\, generational traumas and evangelical worldviews all wrapped into one tongue-in-cheek honky tonkin’ tune. \nhttps://www.instagram.com/cannonrogersmusic \n\n\nlighthearted” is an indie-folk band from Athens\, Georgia fronted by twin sisters Gracie Huffman and Eliza Lemmon. They write the “type of hushed\, kaleidoscopic songs that appeal to anyone that takes to gorgeous harmonies and plumbing the depths of human nature” (Ethan Fogus of Immersive Atlanta). Since its release\, their debut album “from here on out\,” (Apr 2023) has accrued 1.3 million streams on Spotify alone. Operating independently\, lighthearted has played to crowds across the country\, both of their own and opening for acts such as hey\, nothing\, Johnnyswim\, Hans Williams\, Briscoe\, Sarah Kinsley\, Family and Friends\, etc. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/lightheartedtheband/

SUMMARY:Lyle de Vitry/Ben Cosgrove
DESCRIPTION:Lyle de Vitry and Ben Cosgrove live at the Lizard Lounge October 17th!\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n$12/$15 door \nDoors at 7 \n \nMuch like life itself\, the music of Lyle de Vitry comes in cycles. With his intricate\, ambient fingerpicking guitar style and suede-soft baritone voice\, de Vitry mesmerizes audiences into meditative serenity. Immersed in rich and nuanced harmonic composition\, listeners are gently drawn into the here and now. Effortlessly moving between unity and dissonance\, voice and instrumentation\, rhythm and melody\, de Vitry seamlessly integrates the comfort of folk music with the spine-shivering emotional release and intentionality of classical compositions. In so doing\, he manages to create a sound as dynamic and honest as the ocean’s eternally flowing tides or the planet’s ever-changing seasons. \nLyle de Vitry is an acclaimed songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. In 2023\, he was selected as one of ten finalists in the internationally recognized Telluride Troubadours contest and was named runner-up in the NewSong LEAF Singer-Songwriter Competition. He recently completed the prestigious Residency at 821 hosted by Lamplight AVL in Asheville\, NC\, and is currently developing an instrumental album\, set to be recorded in the summer of 2024. His debut album\, Door Within a Dream\, is set to be released in August 2024. \nhttps://www.lyledevitry.com/ \n\n\nBen Cosgrove is a traveling composer-performer whose music explores themes of landscape\, place\, and environment. Described by the Boston Globe as “a sonic plein-air painter… his piano as a paintbrush\,” Ben has performed in every U.S. state except for Delaware\, collaborated with groups ranging from rock bands to research scientists\, contributed music to several radio and film projects (including the recent Ken Burns documentary The American Buffalo)\, and held residencies and fellowships with institutions including NASA\, the National Park Service\, the National Forest Service\, Harvard University\, Middlebury College\, the Schmidt Ocean Institute\, and the Sitka Center for Art & Ecology. \n \nBen’s music has been called “beautiful and fascinating” (The Maine Edge)\, “deeply impressive” (Independent Clauses)\, and “immediately evocative and fully arresting… brim with technical mastery and emotional capital” (Seven Days). His newest record\, Bearings\, a collection of improvisation-based music that reflects upon the relationship between movement and place\, was released in 2023. SUMMARY:Rosier/Kit Orion
DESCRIPTION:Montreal’s Rosier live at the Lizard Lounge with Kit Orion Oct 16th!\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n$12/$15 \nDoors at 7 \nFolk at its core and endowed with a great affection for detail\, the Montreal-based band « Rosier » evolves gracefully without following the prescribed recipe of its era. Halfway between tradition and modernity\, « Rosier » takes over an audacious approach where traditional songs become the intimate accomplice of well-crafted indie-folk-pop-rock music. Their direction: one where the unheard meets the existing\, and stories passed down from generation to generation are rejuvenated with a contemporary twist. \nWith a compelling collection of music\, 2 Canadian Folk Music Awards nominations (Folk Album of the Year\, Pushing the Boundaries Award)\, over 2 million streams and ten years active as a band\, the bilingual and mostly feminine band march to the beat of their own drum: alternating between both French and English languages\, touring worldwide and between acoustic and electric soundscapes.  \nThey have toured locally and internationally. Some of their notable performances include: the Folk Alliance International (USA); New Colossus Festival (USA); Coup de coeur francophone (Canada); Edmonton Folk Festival (Canada); TSB Festival Of Lights (New Zealand); Rocky Mountain Folks Festival (USA); Port Fairy Folk Festival (Australia); Tonder Folk Festival (Denmark); Festival Pause-Guitare (France); Bardentreffen Festival (Germany); Itinerari Folk Festival (Italy); Bromyard Folk Festival (UK) and the Jeux de la Francophonie (Abidjan\, Ivory Coast). \nhttps://rosierband.com/en/ \n\n\nIntroducing Caitlyn O’Brien (She/Her/Hers)\, a Cambridge-based singer-songwriter\, musician\, producer\, and DJ. \nCaitlyn became dedicated to her exploration of music and musical community starting with studying classical voice at a young age\, and later\, getting involved in her local music community performing in original projects\, bands and studio sessions. \nShe has only just recently started publicly writing and producing her own music under the name Kit Orion with her first EP released in February of 2021. \nThe majority of the songs from her self-titled EP and upcoming record “Bottle Grin” scheduled for release in October of 2024\, were written as responses to personal loss and exploration of self\, through prompts given in a songwriting club led by dear friend and collaborator\, Jessica Kion (Justice Cow). \nThe creation of the album\, “Bottle Grin”\, strived to sonically collage her self-produced bedroom soundscapes to the live musical contributions of friends and collaborators in the studio. \nLike Honey\, the first single to be released from the new record\, was released on 8/1/24\, and is available to stream in all of the listening places.

SUMMARY:The Macrotones/Zamova
DESCRIPTION:The Macrotones return to the Lizard Lounge with guests Zamova!\n\n\nEvent is 21+$15/20 door \nEstablished in Boston in 2007\, The Macrotones are a 10-piece unit steeped in off-beat funk & soul rhythms from all over the globe. Blazing horns meet mighty hooks for a progressive mix fit to fill any dancefloor. \nThe band’s tightly-honed grooves and infectious sound has shared the stage with like-minded practitioners such as Lee Fields & the Expressions\, Durand Jones & the Indications\, the Budos Band\, Grupo Fantasma\, Orgone\, Ikebe Shakedown\, and Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars. Since typical genre descriptions fail to fully capture the scope of the Macrotones sound\, new monikers need exploration: imperial funk\, astrobeat\, or even “a soundtrack for spies” all fit. \nAfter numerous instrumental LP’s and EP’s released on Music ADD\, a new era for the band began in 2019 when friend and occasional guest vocalist Phil Desisto joined full time. Phil’s commanding and gritty vocals\, a bit like Bobby Womack meets Mike Patton\, saw the band embrace more classic soul sounds from the ‘6os and ’70s\, while retaining their edgy funk. \nJune 2024 finally saw the release of ‘From The Void’\, their new LP with Phil on all 10 tracks. A feature on WBUR’s album guide remarked that “the LP showcases soulful lead vocals along with the psychedelic grooves the Macrotones have mastered.” This fall\, they will follow up with an instrumental version of the album featuring two new instrumental songs not featured on the original record\, and celebrate with a release party at the Lizard Lounge. \n\n\nBased out of various areas of New England\, Zamova is a jazz-fusion group that was formed in 2019 when Grammy award winning producer\, Motif Alumni & his company The Rucker Collective joined forces with the owners behind one of Boston’s most prominent record stores\, Music Research Library. With influences shaped by years of record digging\, this group represents a collage of Bruton/KPM libraries\, DIY bedroom-private press\, & 1970’s prog rock\, sprinkled with a dash of George Duke. “Expositions” is their latest release available on Madlib’s Invazion label

All my roots are from rock and roll…. being a soloist was a serious departure from that\,” Tom says. Baker Thomas Band or “BTB” was not intended to be as big as it is now. The original line up was drums\, bass\, guitar\, keyboard and trombone. From that humble 5 we’ve grown and now the band is rarely less than 9 or 10 artists with a full horn section and percussion section as well.” BTB has been a blast and hearing my songs interpreted through so many talented artists is a dream come true!” – Tom “The Baker” Bianchi \nBaker Thomas Band \n \n\n\nThe 890s are a funk rock band out of Somerville – originating during 2020\, the majority of the band lived in the same 2 apartment house – creating a basement rehearsal space during the lockdown. The band consists of 8 members and frequent guest performers – including but not limited to drums\, bass\, guitars\, keys\, saxophone and multiple vocalists. In April of 2024 The 890s released their first studio single\, ‘Waiting’ on Spotify and Apple Music.Check them out on IG and YouTube – @The890s

SUMMARY:Dwayne Haggins
DESCRIPTION:Dwayne Haggins returns to the Lizard Lounge Oct 2!\n\n\nEVENT IS 21+ \n$12/$15 door \n  \nHe’s been described as “the love child of Otis Redding and Doc Watson.” “The John Legend of rockabilly.” And recently\, “a ‘what-took-you-so-long’ fusion of Elvis and Marvin Gaye.” But he is Dwayne Haggins\, and his voice is his own. \nFor Dwayne\, every performance is a mission of discovery – of self and of song. Whether on the stage of a metropolitan concert hall or the makeshift bandstand of a neighborhood dive\, you will find him exploring uncharted musical territories\, listening for new ways to stir his influences into this night’s expression of his unique sound – strangely familiar\, naturally mysterious\, unmistakably his own. \nHaggins\, a Massachusetts native\, cut his teeth playing locally and a chance encounter at an open mic led to an introduction that would seal his fate. Bruce Marshall\, a local music legend formally of the Toy Caldwell Band\, was so impressed with Haggins’ that he took the young musician under his wing\, introducing him to a local promoter who in turn booked Haggins at higher profile venues. \nhttps://verdictmusic.com/artists/dwayne-haggins/#:~:text=He’s%20been%20described%20as%20%E2%80%9Cthe\,his%20voice%20is%20his%20own.

SUMMARY:The Blue Ribbons/Franc Graham Band
DESCRIPTION:The Blue Ribbons return to the Lizard Lounge Sept 28th with Franc Graham Band.\n\n\nEvent is 21+$15/$18 \nSEPT 28 at the Lizard Lounge with The Blue Ribbons and The Franc Graham Band promises to be more than just the 271st day of the year. It will be a night filled with infinite possibilities where time and space collapse into a sublime sonic experience. In the future\, when historians look upon this night\, they will all conclude that SEPT 28 was the single most important event that led to the next new day filled with hope and expectation on planet Earth. Be a part of history and get your tickets in advance. \n“The Blue Ribbons’ latest album\, 2024’s “Forever\, But Not For Long\,” has plenty of pop hooks. Or rather\, it had plenty of them before the band took sledgehammers and scalpels to most of the pretty bits. \n“It took a while to get the bones of some of the tunes down just so we could break them\,” bandleader James Rohr told Herald with a laugh. \nLocal champs the Blue Ribbons are a pop band in the same way that the Beatles or Steely Dan or Television are pop bands in that they like pop but “aren’t too precious about the songs\,” Rohr said. \nJed Gottleib – Boston Herald

Cathartic songs delivered with haunting vocals\, swelling drums\, and atmospheric guitars straddle somewhere between ‘90s indie rock and woozy shoegaze. \n\n\nIcarus Phoenix is an indie-rock band from Baltimore\, MD led by Drew Danburry (gtr/vox) with Eli Sims (drums)\, Leena Rhodes (gtr/vox/synth) and Brendan Russell (bass). Having built a cult following after being included on Stereogum’s albums of note for their “Son” EP as well as their DIY tour to Japan/USA in 2024 they are preparing to release their fourth studio album in August 2024. Recording it in Provo\, Utah at June Audio (Nov 2022) with producer Jed Jones (Post Malone\, The Killers) and recruiting the help of longtime friends Jake Bellows (Neva Dinova)\, Justin Pacheco\, Andrew Young (Gingers Palace) to help track 40 songs in 3 days. Written by Drew Danburry in 2021-2022 after divorcing his wife of 13 years and leaving his 8 year old son with her to move across the country amidst a housing crisis. \n\n\nEmerging from the New England post-grunge\, alternative rock scene in 1997\, The Sheila Divine captivated audiences with a raw intensity reminiscent of teenage heartbreak. The band\, initially formed by Aaron Perrino (guitar\, vocals)\, Shawn Sears (drums)\, and Jim Gilbert (bass)\, quickly made their mark with their powerful sound and emotive performances. Aaron Perrino\, the heart and soul of The Sheila Divine\, has been writing songs since he was 16. His journey through various bands such as Dear Leader\, No Hope No Harm\, and Aaron & the Lord has been marked by relentless creativity and a steadfast commitment to his art. No matter the challenges\, music has remained his true north\, guiding him through life’s tumultuous moments. Perrino’s signature style\, often described as “whisper to a scream\,” showcases his ability to balance delicate melodies with intense\, almost primal outbursts. His voice\, filled with both vulnerability and ferocity\, has become a defining element of The Sheila Divine’s sound. The band’s origins trace back to the University of New York at Oneonta\, where Perrino and his original bandmates formed The Waverlys. Their reconnection in Boston’s music scene led to the birth of The Sheila Divine. The band quickly garnered attention\, signing with Cherry Disc Records and releasing an EP in 1998. By 1999\, they were signed by Roadrunner Records\, releasing their debut album\, New Parade. Over the years\, The Sheila Divine has seen various lineup changes but has always remained centered around Perrino’s artistic vision. Subsequent releases\, including Where Have My Countrymen Gone (2001)\, Secret Society EP (2002)\, The Things That Once Were (2012)\, The Morbs (2015)\, and The Beginning of the End Is Where We’ll Start Again (2019)\, continued to push the boundaries of their sound while staying true to their roots. Perrino envisions the future of The Sheila Divine as a dynamic\, collaborative project akin to Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds\, with different eras and lineups continually pushing the band to new heights. Excitement buzzes around the upcoming release of The Sheila Divine’s new concept album\, I Am the Darkness. We Are the Light.\, set to drop on Halloween 2024. The album promises to be a profound exploration of contrasts\, reflecting the band’s journey through light and darkness. The first single\, “I Know There Is Happiness\,” is already out\, with the second single\, “Satan Got My Soul\,” premiering on August 21st. Aaron Perrino’s unwavering passion and dedication to his craft ensure that The Sheila Divine’s legacy will continue to grow\, inspiring new generations of listeners.

SUMMARY:Kimaya Diggs/Samantha Farrell
DESCRIPTION:Kimaya Diggs and Samantha Farrell share a night at the Lizard Lounge September 21st!\n\n\nEvent is 21+$20/$25 door \nDoors at 8 \nMusician Kimaya Diggs navigates her world with stories. Penning her first one-woman show as a little kid\, she’s published fiction\, earned a Callaloo fellowship for poetry\, and works days as a speechwriter—not to mention the accolades her songwriting’s earned\, including a New England Music Awards nod\, gigs at legendary folk haunts like Club Passim\, and appearances at Green River Festival\, Rubblebucket’s Dream Picnic\, and the Emily Dickinson festival. “I’ve always thought of my writing and music as one thing—connective storytelling\,” Diggs explains. But while her mother was sick with a twelve-year illness\, Diggs felt unable to share the whole truth. Her first LP\, 2018’s Breastfed\, was largely about her mom\, but it wasn’t until her passing that Diggs was free to use songwriting to process. “Sharing my grieving experience has resonated with people; they’re excited to hear something that’s not all good\,” notes Diggs. To help cope\, Diggs and her husband Jacob Rosazza—also her musical collaborator—rescued an ex-racing dog\, Quincy. Though they shared only two years together\, caring for the traumatized animal helped Diggs find purpose. “Having him was challenging\, but at the same time\, he’s why we survived the first year without my mom\,” offers Diggs. “It was special to get to love a creature so much—because of\, in spite of\, and in addition to the challenges he came with.” Losing Quincy gave her greater insight on heartache\, so she named her newest album after him. https://www.kimayadiggs.com/ \n\n\nSamantha Farrell is a Boston-based musician and vocalist whose sound is a gorgeously moody fusion of jazz\, alt R&B and pop. Once described as “the best singer-songwriter you’ve never heard of\,” by NBC Los Angeles\, Farrell has always been understated in her approach to her music career – but\, those who are in the know\, have been quietly dazzled with her unique voice\, rhythmic subtleties and tonal nuance for years. \nSamantha started her career in Los Angeles where she released her first album “Spiritus.” In 2008\, she caught the ear of LeRoi Moore\, the saxophonist of the Dave Matthews Band\, who was in the midst of producing and developing her next album in Charlottesville\, VA when he suddenly passed away\, and in October 2009\, “Luminous” was independently released. Through word of mouth alone\, the album charted No. 7 on the national pop iTunes charts. She has since followed that up with two EPs\, “In Between Stories” (2010) and “Softly Swooning World” (2013)\, with her latest album\, “September Sun” (2016) being voted as one of WUMB radio’s Top 10 albums of 2016. \nhttps://www.samanthafarrell.com/
