SUMMARY:Jon McBride's Big Easy With Ryan Montbleau/The Eisenhower Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Jon McBride’s Big Easy with Ryan Montbleau returns with special guests The Eisenhower Brothers December 11th!\n\n\n$15 adv/$20 door \n7 doors \n \nJon McBride’s Big Easy traverses the roots of funk music–early jazz\, blues\, gospel\, and Caribbean styles–playing songs that have entertained audiences for generations\, and exciting fans across many genres\, bringing raw talent and irresistible swing to contemporary roots music. Laissez les bons temps rouler! \nFeaturing Jon McBride on soprano saxophone\, Ted Perry on piano\, Marty Ballou on bass\, and Dwight Ritcher on drums\, and joined by special guest Ryan Montbleau. \nRyan Montbleau has spent the better part of thirty years cultivating a devoted audience on the strength of his ecstatic live shows and exhilarating sonic versatility. He’s collaborated with artists as diverse as Trombone Shorty\, Galactic\, Steel Pulse\, Tall Heights\, Martin Sexton\, Anders Osborne\, and George Porter\, Jr; shared bills with the likes of Tedeschi Trucks Band\, Ani DiFranco\, Todd Snider\, The Wood Brothers\, Rodrigo y Gabriela\, and Mavis Staples; and racked up more than 150 million streams on Spotify alone. The Boston Herald raved that “he’s made a career of confident\, danceable positivity.” \n \n\n\nEisenhower Brothers \nFrom The early days \, when Milt was producing and playing “coloring” guitar on Dwight&Nicole’s first album\, the whole crew living in the house over Rear Window Studio\, Dwight and Milt noticed they had a natural “weave” when the two guitars played together. That’s a word Keith Richard uses to describe what happens with him and Ron Wood. It’s a sympatico conversation between guitars\, finishing each other’s thoughts\, creating a whole\, just a wee bit larger than the sum of its’ parts. Turns out this is kinda rare to find\, and when you do find another player who hears it the same way you do\, then you’re onto something. The instruments can be the same\, or different\, f’rinstance a guitarist and a drummer. It’s a feel thing. Hard to describe\, but you know it when you feel it. So for years\, these two\, now living in different states\, still get the weave going whenever they can. We can’t say exactly what’s gonna happen at an Eisenhower Bros. session\, uncharted territory\, but it’ll probably feel pretty good. Why Eisenhower? Well\, Milt’s long run with Four Piece Suit digs deep into influences from the 1950s-60s\, somebody called it Eisenhower music. That era has become even rosier\, as it represents a decency in public life that has become increasingly elusive. Plus one of the guys is named Dwight\, and guess what! …”Ike” had a brother named Milton. And by an even more unlikely auspicious synchronicity\, Milton Eisenhower\, during his tenure as president of Johns Hopkins University\, was a mentor to a fledgling Freshman\, playing bass in an Acid Jazz band (before the term had been coined) for strippers on Baltimore’s notorious “Block”… Milt Reder. So full circle. Could be good…ya never know.

SUMMARY:Flying Vipers and Revolutionary Snake Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Flying Vipers return to the Lizard Lounge Dec 12th\, celebrating their second record of the year with Revolutionary Snake Ensemble!\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n$20 adv/$25 Door \nDoors at 7 \n \nIn a basement bunker outside of Boston\, MA\, Flying Vipers create dubwise music on an econo cassette machine. Live\, they are a 7-piece unit with soulful vocals\, blazing horns\, bubbling keys and heavy drum & bass. Their love of Jamaican and UK 70’s roots and dub is their north star\, but eclectic crates of records and a couple decades worth of DIY punk shows bleed through on tape and on stage. \nThe Vipers will be celebrating the release of their second album of 2025 (the year of the snake). In April they launched ‘Off World’ on Easy Star Records\, which has been getting consistent airplay on the BBC (via David Rodigan and Don Letts)\, and KEXP. Bandcamp called it “a psychedelic dub masterpiece” and WBUR dubbed it “one of the most unique and memorable Boston reggae records in recent memory.” Their new album released in October\, ‘World Inversion’\, finds Flying Vipers reconstructing ‘Off World’ in both strange & familiar ways\, including a guest spot from Mission of Burma’s Roger Miller. \nFlying Vipers \n \n \n \n\n\nThe Revolutionary Snake Ensemble is a funk/street beat improvisational brass band performing a unique blend of original and traditional music. Saxophonist/composer Ken Field‘s group is on the march\, spreading the gospel of groove far and near. Using the raucous rhythms of the New Orleans brass tradition as a launching pad\, the Boston band has forged a volatile and unbridled sound. \n“Touches all the right cornerstones of jazz\, but also funks my socks off.” – WKDU\, Philadelphia \n“Ken Field’s Revolutionary Snake Ensemble have been joining the New Orleans brass band tradition to vanguard jazz\, swinging NOLA funk\, second-line street music\, blues\, and much more … A band at the height of their powers … a harmonic sophistication that should be the envy of most jazz and brass band musicians”AllMusic.com \nRevolutionary Snake Ensemble

SUMMARY:The Dead Flowers/Invisible Rays/Petty Fears
DESCRIPTION:The Dead Flowers\, Invisible Rays and Petty Fears live at the Lizard Lounge December 13th at 8!\n\n\n$15/$20 Door \nDoors 7 \n \nHailing from Somerville\, MA\, The Dead Flowers sow a sonic crossbreed of 70s rock ‘n’ roll and 90s indie. A three-vocal attack adorns their Stones-esque swagger\, shifting their tone from the soulful twang of CCR to the slacker angst of Pavement. The Flowers’ rollicking strut harkens back to rock’s days of old\, yet reminds us to party right now. \nhttps://www.instagram.com/the_dead_flowers_music/ \n\n\n“Invisible Rays are a Power Pop band from Somerville\, Massachusetts that channel the musical and lyrical sensibilities of 60s and 70s rock\, pop\, jangle\, and bubblegum\, while reinterpreting the style through the sonic architecture of the late 80s and 90s. They are melodic and sweet yet rough around the edges. Equal parts Anglophile and American rock and roll\, their sound is heavily indebted to the classic bands of Manchester\, Memphis\, Minneapolis\, Glasgow\, and Boston. Fans of the Replacements\, Teenage Fanclub\, Matthew Sweet\, Big Star\, and Tom Petty will not be disappointed. Bring ear plugs. ” \n \nhttps://www.instagram.com/just_invisiblerays/ \n\n\nPretty Fears is a Boston-based rock trio comprised of guitarist/vocalist John Tyson\, bassist Dante Fiorenza\, and drummer Josh Zollman. Pretty Fears’ original songs blend roots and blues\, with rock and alternative\, to create a delicious musical soup that all can enjoy! \n \nhttps://www.instagram.com/theprettyfears/

DESCRIPTION:The Blue Ribbons return to the Lizard Lounge Dec 27th with Jake Manzi at 8!\n\n\n$15/$20 \nDoors 7 \n \n“The Blue Ribbons’ latest album\, 2024’s “Forever\, But Not For Long\,” has plenty of pop hooks. Or rather\, it had plenty of them before the band took sledgehammers and scalpels to most of the pretty bits. \n“It took a while to get the bones of some of the tunes down just so we could break them\,” bandleader James Rohr told Herald with a laugh. \nLocal champs the Blue Ribbons are a pop band in the same way that the Beatles or Steely Dan or Television are pop bands in that they like pop but “aren’t too precious about the songs\,” Rohr said. \nJed Gottleib – Boston Herald \n \nThe Blue Ribbons \n \n \n\n\nJake Manzi is a Los Angeles based singer/songwriter\, raised in Western Massachusetts. With a subtle touch for turning up pure song-stuff out of life\, channeling the likes of Marshall Crenshaw and Tom Petty\, of Lucinda Williams and Bruce Springsteen\, Manzi offers you his singular take on what contemporary pop-rock can be. Opening for acts like Dawes\, NRBQ\, Ron Sexsmith\, Lori McKenna\, and M. Ward and collaborating with artists like Don Was\, Mikaela Davis\, and Madison Cunningham\, Jake Manzi is a songwriter to be reckoned with and a unique talent to be enjoyed. \n \nJake Manzi

SUMMARY:Dub Apocalypse
DESCRIPTION:Ring in the New Year with the echo drenched sounds of Dub Apocalypse!\n\n\n	MUST BE 21+ \n Dub Apocalypse is an instrumental dub reggae band from Boston\, MA. Band members are Tommy Benedetti-drums\,Van Martin-guitar\,Johnny Trama-guitar\,Aaron Bellamy-bass\,and Timo Shanko-sax/bass. The band came together in 2007\, led by drummer Tommy Benedetti and guitarist\, Johnny Trama.Tommy Benedetti is one of the founding members of American Reggae Pioneers\,John Brown’s Body. He brings a wealth of experience from the reggae/dub scene to the table\,having recorded albums for the legendary Shanachie Label\,John Zorn’s Tzadik Label (mixed by Bill Laswell)\,and is currently with John Brown’s Body on Easy Star Records. This history is combined with almost 2 decades of International touring\,as well as backing some of the giants of Jamaican music\,including The Meditations and Justin Hinds. \n Guitarist Johnny Trama adds a soulful blues touch to the Dub Apocalypse signature sound.Trama has spent time on the road with the great Ron Levy\, BB King’s organ player\, as well as many other regional rock and soul/r&b acts. Not long after Dub Apocalypse came together\, longtime friend Timo Shanko entered the fold.A dual threat on both bass and saxophone\,Shanko is a veteran of the blues and free jazz scene. He spent many years on the road with Blues legend\, Eddie Kirkland\, as well as with G. Love and Special Sauce. Shanko is also a prolific composer\,and his improvisational stylings are an integral part of the Dub Apocalypse sound. Although DA started out as more of a collective\,in the past few years the lineup has solidified with the addition of bassist Aaron Bellamy and guitarist Van Martin. Bellamy is a longtime fixture in the Boston funk scene\,and in combination with Benedetti \,they form the deep\,militant sound at the core of Dub Apocalypse. \n Originally hailing from Chicago\,Van Martin rounds out the lineup on guitar. Martin has much touring experience as well\, including appearances with Bernie Worrell and Big Daddy Kane. His sonic textures\,adventurous playing and songwriting have helped Dub Apocalypse take their sound to a new level. The DA sound is an evolving mix of original compositions and their own interpretations of classic Jamaican and UK songs and dub plates. Heavy hitting drum and bass grooves set the table. A twin guitar attack\, with Trama’s rhythmic anchor\,and Martin’s dub sonics\, swirl in and out in tandem. These pieces\, combined with Timo Shanko’s Coltrane inspired sax approach\, give Dub Apocalypse a

INSPIRED BY THIS ERA\, PAT PROPOSED THE TWO WORK OUT SOME SONG IDEAS HE HAD BEEN PLAYING WITH. AT THE SAME TIME\, TIM REVEALED TO PAT SOME PERSONAL LYRICS HE HAD HELD ONTO FOR YEARS. THE SONGWRITING CONNECTION WAS INSTANT AND UNIQUE. PAT AND TIM REALIZED THAT THIS WAS A NEW VENTURE\, NOT STRICTLY BLUES AND NOT CONFINED TO ANY LANE OF CREATIVITY. THE TWO FLEW TO DENVER IN EARLY 2024 TO PUT THESE SOUNDS ON TAPE WITH FRIEND DYLAN BROWN AT THE HELM AS ENGINEER AND CO-PRODUCER. FROM THIS SESSION\, CANYON LIGHTS WAS BORN. \nCanyon Lights \n\n\nDred Buffalo is a duo Rock ’n’ Roll band born out of the misty bogs of Southern New England.
