Influence is also the 2018 grand slam champion\, and coached the 2021 Yale University Slam team. Having done all that he is the founder of Influence A Life LLC\, a multi purpose company that creates curriculums on Social Emotional Learning using the foundation of poetry. The album was recorded at the legendary Cash Cabin during the pandemic\, and inspired by the solitude and symbols Caudle found in nature during that time. It’s produced by John Carter Cash\, and features veteran session players Jerry Douglas\, Sam Bush\, Dennis Crouch and Fred Eltringham\, and the vocal talents of Carlene Carter\, Elizabeth Cook and Sarah Peasall McGuffey. Simplistic arrangements– in which Caudle was the only guitarist– built a framework for space that is filled intentionally so that the songs themselves can be heard and appreciated without an overcrowding of instrumentation. On this record\, outsider influences come into play nearly as much as his foundational knowledge of traditional Appalachian folk and other music history. The legendary songwriter’s fiery voice and frank lyricism give her songs both their emotional potency and their stark beauty. Zedek is able to distill complex events into simple\, clear\, and at times monumentally weighty moments with a singular grace. Through ballads or bluster\, Zedek imbues her music with unguarded honesty. New album Perfect Vision examines the anxiety and pain of rising divisions between people both physical and ideological. On Perfect Vision\, Zedek transmutes fervor and resilience into sobering laments\, while her lush arrangements wrap the listener in an often complex emotional message. \n \nPerfect Vision follows Thalia Zedek Band’s 2018 album Fighting Season\, created in the midst of growing tensions across the U.S. On Fighting Season Zedek sought resistance\, where on Perfect Vision Zedek searches for clarity during a time of exponential isolation and doubt. On “Binoculars\,” she explores the difficulty of staying afloat\, while overwhelmed by uncertainty of conflict and fear. Zedek’s simple and repetitive guitar line marches forward while longtime collaborator David Michael Curry’s viola swirls intensely around her. The pounding “Queasy” thunders and thrashes in the face of ignorance and intolerance while “Overblown” examines the strain of communicating across cavernous schisms. Every challenge and sadness Zedek forces us to see is met in equal measure by her defiant guitar and dissenting voice\, a torch illuminating a path for the listener to navigate through the darkness. \n \nZedek composed the bulk of Perfect Vision remotely from her band. Lockdowns allowed Zedek to take more time working on arrangements as well as to collaborate remotely with artists from across the country. Zedek recorded the core of the album with the veritable rhythm section of bassist Winston Braman and drummer Gavin McCarthy (also of Zedek’s E and Karate) who brought a propulsive punch to the album. As the trio recorded at Machines With Magnets with engineer Seth Manchester\, friends old and new remotely recorded their parts fleshing out Zedek vision and arrangements. Pedal steel guitarist Karan Zarkisian buoys the steady swagger of “Cranes” with sublime melodic lines seemingly in conversation with Zedek\, in an intimate conversation between friends. Brian Carpenter’s trumpet harmonies punctuate the incendiary “From the Fire” with flares of Eastern European brio. On the waltzing “Smoked” and climactic album closer “Tolls\,” Alison Chesley’s (Helen Money) cello bolsters David Michael Curry’s elegantly restrained lines. Mel Lederman added final touches of piano and back up harmonies in the final days at the studio. \n \nZedek and Manchester completed work on the album on January 6th\, 2021\, as the U.S. Capitol was under insurrection. Perfect Vision is an album fully willing to see\, acknowledge and address the insidious forces of the modern world. Zedek brings considerable skills as a musician and as a groundbreaking advocate for both women in music and LGBTQ+ rights to face emotional and political obstacles with unblinking\, steadfast determination. DESCRIPTION:Ink From Honey\n\n“When the voice of prison reform echoes\, it should be the understanding of rehabilitated people being set free.”\n\n\n\nFeaturing the work of six incarcerated poets\, curated by Joanna Célestin: \n\nMy name is Artem Vaskanyan. I am an Armenian refugee from Azerbaijan. During the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan my family and I\, at age six\, migrated to the Russian parts of the former Soviet Union and years later in 1993 we migrated to the United States. At age twenty in the year 2000 I was arrested and imprisoned. During my years of incarceration\, my life set me on the path of spiritual and intellectual growth. Because of my drive to persevere\, I was able to graduate from Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts in 2020\, become an activist\, a writer & Perot and a published author of three books. \n\nThank you for listening. \nYours truly\, \n-Artem \n\nMy name is Eddie Mack. And I am 38 years of age. I am a black man raised in a single-parent household. I am currently serving a life sentence for a crime I did not commit under a theory called Joint Venture. \n\nMy name is Elbert Newson. I’m currently doing life in prison for murder in the first degree. I have a Joint Venture case: meaning there was a principal\, and Joint Venturer and I was the Joint Venture. Plus\, I had no principal in my case. To understand Joint Venture would be a miracle. \nMy name is Amos Don. Fiancé to Joanna Celestin. I am currently serving a life sentence; wrongfully convicted. Presently\, I am enrolled in Emerson College. I am also a published poet\, a children’s book author\, and involved in civic engagement through DonofCreation/Ink from Honey LLC. \nPeace Family\, My name is Ray Còlon\, I am 48 years old and I’ve been incarcerated for 24 years on a sentence of life without parole. I am the Latino Chairman on the Norfolk inmate council. I co-facilitate the Harriet Tubman project and I am enrolled in the Emerson Prison Initiative. \n\nOn behalf of Lizard Lounge\, we are full of gratitude. We are the class of incarcerated people honored for this privilege to feature our poetry. Often society never witnessed rehabilitation take form. In account are six poets who are somewhat engaged in civic duties and some kind of transformative education/program while incarcerated. Our vision and hope seeks to arise understanding\, and gain voting support on the joint venture bill sponsored by state representative Lindsay Sabadosa to abolish the contributing factor towards the mass incarceration of black and brown poverty communities\, and the demographic of poor white people. Abolishing Joint Venture theory will unlock the chains of injustice\, and allowing the person who never shared the intentions to commit the crime to revive Justice. DESCRIPTION:GET TICKETS\n\n\n  \nDan Blakeslee celebrates the release of his upcoming “Road Hymns” with a hometown party at the Lizard Lounge!\n\n\nMUST BE 21+ \n\n\nWhile attending art school in Baltimore\, Maryland in the early 90’s Dan Blakeslee\, a Maine native discovered that he had an equal and deeply rooted connection to music. He would sneak into the galleries to play his guitar through the late hours of the evening surrounded by easels and oil paintings. After four years in “Charm City\,” he returned to his childhood home in the Tatnic Woods of South Berwick\, ME. That summer he played street corners in New Hampshire and Maine while working at a lobster restaurant. His employer urged him to sever ties to manual labor for one of a more musical nature. A phone call from a friend offering him a room in Somerville\, MA began his journey south in 1995. While settling into this artful community he began to practice his craft in the smoke-laden subways of Boston. He now has been making music and art in the New England region ever since\, leading him to tour the U.S. He has performed with Langhorne Slim\, Josh Ritter\, David Wax Museum\, Lydia Loveless\, The Lumineers\, Deer Tick\, The Low Anthem\, Brown Bird\, Sean Rowe\, Jonah Tolchin\, Old 97’s\, Death Vessel\, Kimya Dawson among others. In 2015 his dream of playing Newport Folk Festival became a reality\, where Bob Dylan went electric 50 years earlier. \nThe hills and highways are made for wandering\, this is forever rooted in Dan Blakeslee who performs an average of 160+ shows per year. In a gymnasium at Laconia Prison (NH) in 2005\, a crowd of 150 inmates became hushed after hearing Blakeslee’s songs of hardship\, hope\, and true grit later released as a live album. In the late winter of 2006 brought him a string of 27 shows with Tiger Saw (Dylan Metrano\, Alan Bull\, Angel Deradoorian (Dirty Projectors)) to the southern US and straight up the Mississippi River igniting his passion to continue on this path for the years to come. In June of 2012 upon returning from the 120-mile journey by foot on the Massachusetts Walking Tour Blakeslee mapped out a tour of a different shape slated for the fall of that year. This venture spanned 7 states\, with Blakeslee performing 31 shows in 25 days as his Halloween alter ego “Doctor Gasp” making a connect the dots Jack-O-Lantern face on a map of New England. 2013 brought him to Austin\, TX in March for SXSW followed by a tour with his band “The Calabash Club” in late June of that year. \nBlakeslee has released ten full-length albums to date. Two of them were recorded by long-time art school friend Ron Harrity (Peapod Recordings) the first “Lincoln Street Roughs” was recorded in a warehouse called The Map Room in Portland\, Maine in 2007. The next was “Tatnic Tales” released on May 10\, 2011. It is a collection of Blakeslee’s country folk songs most stemming from real life experiences. This album features his band The Calabash Club who formed in a Dover\, NH basement in October of 2008. The members: Mike Effenberger – piano\, Nick Phaneuf – bass\, and Jim Rudolf – drums; are the essential ingredients in this acoustic folk outfit. “Tatnic Tales” was recorded in Dean Ludington’s barn in North Berwick\, ME by the railroad as the friendship between the members of the band bloomed. “Tatnic Tales” is the first full-length album the band has recorded together to date. Blakeslee’s following album “Owed To The Tanglin’ Wind” was recorded at the Columbus Theatre in Providence\, RI by Ben Knox Miller and Jeffrey Prystowsky (The Low Anthem). It was released on August 19th\, 2014 with which Blakeslee did extensive touring in 2015. This album received “Album Of The Year” from Red Line Roots. Blakeslee was also awarded 2014 “Folk Artist Of The Year” at the Boston Music Awards\, and “Male Performer of The Year” at the 2015 New England Music Awards. After a pause between full-band records his long awaited album “The Alley Walker” recorded by studio wizard Chris Chase (The Noise Floor) featuring his band The Calabash Club came out in 2017 to much acclaim. After touring the US a couple of times and much journeying it was time to get back in the studio. Blakeslee had been dreaming of making a full-length Christmas album for over a decade inspired by his retro music collection. So on a cold winter night in 2019 Blakeslee stepped into the studio for the first session of “Christmasland Jubilee”. This full-length album by Dan Blakeslee and the Calabash Club was revealed on December 1\, 2020\, and is their third release together. \nDan Blakeslee \n\n\n \nLindsay Foote has made a career of crafting sincere music built around honest lyricism and vibrant arrangements steeped in folk traditions. The songwriter’s path has been an unconventional one. Though Massachusetts-born\, she spent the formative years of her twenties in Toronto\, entrenching herself in the diverse music scene. During those years\, she released two EPs\, became a two-time finalist in the Canadian Songwriting Competition\, and completed significant tours through the US and Canada. \nShe returned to her hometown of Boston in 2019\, and has since been making a name for herself in the vibrant folk scene. In January 2020\, Foote released her latest EP\, Rollercoaster\, with a sold out show at Club Passim. On this EP\, Foote collaborated with Toronto’s multi-instrumentalist and producer ​Joel Schwartz. Not long after Dub Apocalypse came together\, longtime friend Timo Shanko entered the fold.A dual threat on both bass and saxophone\,Shanko is a veteran of the blues and free jazz scene.He spent many years on the road with Blues legend\, Eddie Kirkland\, as well as with G. Love and Special Sauce. Shanko is also a prolific composer\,and his improvisational stylings are an integral part of the Dub Apocalypse sound. Although DA started out as more of a collective\,in the past few years the lineup has solidified with the addition of bassist Aaron Bellamy and guitarist Van Martin. Bellamy is a longtime fixture in the Boston funk scene\,and in combination with Benedetti \,they form the deep\,militant sound at the core of Dub Apocalypse. \nOriginally hailing from Chicago\,Van Martin rounds out the lineup on guitar. His sonic textures\,adventurous playing and songwriting have helped Dub Apocalypse take their sound to a new level. But while her mother was sick with a twelve-year illness\, Diggs felt unable to share the whole truth. Her first LP\, 2018’s Breastfed\, was largely about her mom\, but it wasn’t until her passing that Diggs was free to use songwriting to process. “Sharing my grieving experience has resonated with people; they’re excited to hear something that’s not all good\,” notes Diggs. To help cope\, Diggs and her husband Jacob Rosazza—also her musical collaborator—rescued an ex-racing dog\, Quincy. She believes both awareness-building practices and the creative arts are capable of inspiring community connection leading to social change. Lindsey holds a 200HR Teacher Training Certification from The New England School of Integrative Yoga Therapeutics\, a City of Boston Artist Certification\, and an MFA in Poetry from Lesley University. Lindsey has had poems published in FUSION magazine\, Hare’s Paw Literary Journal\, and Mass Poetry’s “Poem of the Moment.” She is currently at work on her first (and second) poetry collections.

DESCRIPTION:Club d’Elf Halloween Spooktacular!\n\n\nA long-standing tradition returns: Club d’Elf at The Lizard for its first Halloween show since 2019!  Halloween has long been a sacred (scared?!) day for the band\, and its Lizard / Halloween shows were a long-standing tradition\, with the band dressing in costume and getting its spooky on. The tradition had to pause in 2020 due to the pandemic\, but it’s back full force this year\, with a creepy line up of Van Gordon Martin (guitar)\, Paul Schultheis (keys)\, Mister Rourke (turntables)\, Mike Rivard (bass & sintir)\, Vicente Lebron (congas)\, Dean Johnston (drums) w/ Tom Hall (sax). Costumes are encouraged!  \nClub d’Elf has been helping audiences lose track of time for twenty five years with its mesmerizing synthesis of Moroccan traditional music and electronic\, dubbed-out funk. Circling about bassist/composer Mike Rivard and drummer Dean Johnston\, each Club d’Elf performance features a different line-up\, drawn from a constellation of some of the most creative improvisers from the jazz\, DJ\, rock & world music scenes of Boston\, NYC and beyond. The band’s music draws from a startlingly wide spectrum of styles\, including jazz\, hip hop\, electronica\, avant garde\, prog-rock and dub. Under the tutelage of member Brahim Fribgane (who hails from Casablanca) the band has absorbed Moroccan trance music\, which is now an essential part of the mix. Diverse audiences are drawn to Fribgane’s mesmerizing oud stylings\, and Rivard’s commanding playing of the Moroccan sintir. Trance forms the central core of the Club d’Elf aesthetic\, weaving together the band’s various influences. \nThe bands latest album\, ‘You Never Know’ (April 2022) rose to #2 on the Relix chart. The record unfurls upon kaleidoscopic clouds of spiced smoke\, shifting from chopped dub-jazz through trance epics that reimagine Boston as a city of bazaars. Club d’Elf pay tribute to the music and musicians who have been primary \ninfluences\, with half the album being covers of gnawa\, Miles Davis\, Joe Zawinul\, Moroccan band Nass el-Ghiwane\, and Frank Zappa. Led by Ethan Robbins (vocals/guitar/mandolin) and Ariel Bernstein (vocals/percussion/banjo)\, the Boston-based duo released their fourth full-length album\, DUO\, in the summer of 2022. “We’re growing as a band\, and I think that shows in our songwriting\,” says Robbins. “I see this album as a leaping off point for many more new albums to come\, and that’s an exciting prospect\,” adds Bernstein. \nPunctuated by tight harmonies and skillful musicianship\, Cold Chocolate has quickly gained recognition for their original music and high-energy shows. The band has shared bills with Leftover Salmon\, David Grisman\, and Angelique Kidjo\, and regularly performs at venues and music festivals across the country. Jason Verlinde of The Fretboard Journal who covered the band’s FreshGrass Festival set noted “there were plenty of magical moments…I will never forget  Cold Chocolate perform.” Kathy Sands-Boehmer of No Depression raved\, ” feels the music in his heart and soul and it shows when he plays. Ethan becomes the music on stage. There’s an almost mystical connection between his guitar and the notes that flow out of it.” \nCold Chocolate  \n\n\nDrawing from 50s and 60s pop\, American Songbook standards\, and much more\, this vibrant duo channels and fuses these influences through two voices\, a guitar\, and violin to bring you a mixture of original songs and dusted off covers from the past.  \nThe two consist of Brad Bensko on Vocals and Guitar\, and Kathleen Parks (of Twisted Pine) on Vocals\, and Five-Stringed Fiddle.  \nIn the fall of 2018 the duo recorded\, produced\, and mixed  their first LP of original material split equally at their home studio full of delightful\, vintage\, and analog recording equipment\, Bearded Cat Studio and with the master\, recording engineer Chris Rival’s Middleville Studio.  Since its release in 2019 it has been loved\, and received high praise by audiences all over New England. \nA follow up two track EP was released online in 2020 via Bandcamp. The tracks are from their last live show at Club Passim in Cambridge\, Massachusetts before the pandemic hit the states. In a way it reminisces about a time when live music was close\, intimate\, and there to take your troubles away for a little while. \nWith live music back be sure to not miss this happy duo.
