SUMMARY:Daydream EP Relase/Jay Faires
DESCRIPTION:Daydream celebrates their upcoming EP release with Jay Faires July 18th!\n\n\n$15 adv/$20 door \nDoors 8 \nDaydream is a Roots Jam Band that blends Americana\, soulful songwriting\, and hard-driving Rock n’ Roll with the free improvisation of Jam pioneers like the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers. Since 2023\, Daydream has been honing a sound that harkens back to these formative influences\, while carving a new path wholly its own. \nAfter a long period in the Boston and New England jam scene playing covers with various groups\, bandleader David Rubin started Daydream as an outlet for his own original music. David has won over audiences with his prowess and by playing with the some of most recognizable acts in the scene\, including his own band Diamond Blues\, at residencies\, tour dates\, and festivals in the Boston area. He’s played with Members of Hot Tuna\, Ryan Montbleau\, New Riders of the Purple Sage\, Dark Star Orchestra\, Guerilla Toss\, Marble Eyes\, Swimmer\, Brown-Eyed Women\, and Bearly Dead. \nThe band\, along with David Rubin on guitar/vocals\, is rounded out by on-the-rise powerhouses Liam Oulton on bass\, Cal DiGiovanni on keyboard\, and Robbie Parrish on drums/vocals. \nDaydream \n\n\nBorn in Tennessee\, Jay Faires grew up playing acoustic guitar\, wishing it was an electric – exposed at age 7 to the east TN bluegrass scene via barn and parking lot jams\, bluegrass camp\, and most importantly\, learning fiddle tunes from a man named Randy Terry in a half-demolished baptist church\, Jay was initially hesitant to embrace the acoustic nature of bluegrass instruments. But due to the deep love of playing and performing music with others\, he found his footing as a young flatpicking guitarist. As soon as possible\, electric guitar came into the picture In high school and college\, and his musical journey throughout Tennessee and North Carolina exposed him to what he calls “feel good” music – old gospel songs\, old time tunes\, classic and modern bluegrass\, jazz jams\, Garcia/Hunter and Weir/Barlow tunes\, and songs written by friends he’s made along the way. While he is just now finding his footing as a songwriter\, his solo shows have lately been focused on reciting the songs from long ago – 1800s and early 1900s folk and other roots songs have such beautiful traditions and stories of being passed down through generations\, and with a particular love for the songs and guitar work of Jerry Garcia\, Jay performs a (mostly) acoustic set of tunes that he feels hit a frequency that transcends time. Jay typically brings an acoustic guitar\, a banjo\, and an electric guitar\, and what happens after that – that’s up to the audience.Jay Faires is the creator of Jerry Tone Store\, inspired by his lifetime love of the sound and tone of Jerry Garcia. His dad\, Eric\, was a taper from 1981-1983 – Grateful Dead music playing throughout the house as a kid left a lasting impact on his musical tastes and more. The first song Jay ever heard was “I Will Take You Home” off the “Built to Last” album on the way home from the hospital\, thanks to his deadhead father. Through his work with Jerry Tone Store\, Jay modifies people’s guitars to help them recreate the magic that Jerry felt when he played onstage.Check out his website here! https://jerrytonestore.com

SUMMARY:Jon McBride's Big Easy With Ryan Montbleau/The Eisenhower Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Fresh off their debut show at the Burlington Jazz Festival\, Ryan Montbleau joins Jon McBride’s for a night of New Orleans music July 24th\n\n\n$15 adv/$18 door \n7 doors \n \nJon McBride’s Big Easy traverses the roots of funk music–early jazz\, blues\, gospel\, and Caribbean styles–playing songs that have entertained audiences for generations. Their skillful musicianship is rooted in jazz and blues traditions but draws on varied experience and eclectic taste\, yielding a unique and modern approach to these storied melodies. Captivating group interaction and melodic improvisation leave listeners and dancers of all ages hungry for more. Laissez les bons temps rouler! \nFeaturing Jon McBride on soprano saxophone\, Ted Perry on piano\, Marty Ballou on bass\, and Dwight Ritcher on drums. \nJon McBride’s Big Easy \n\n\nEisenhower Brothers \nFrom The early days \, when Milt was producing and playing “coloring” guitar on Dwight&Nicole’s first album\, the whole crew living in the house over Rear Window Studio\, Dwight and Milt noticed they had a natural “weave” when the two guitars played together. That’s a word Keith Richard uses to describe what happens with him and Ron Wood. It’s a sympatico conversation between guitars\, finishing each other’s thoughts\, creating a whole\, just a wee bit larger than the sum of its’ parts. Turns out this is kinda rare to find\, and when you do find another player who hears it the same way you do\, then you’re onto something. The instruments can be the same\, or different\, f’rinstance a guitarist and a drummer. It’s a feel thing. Hard to describe\, but you know it when you feel it. So for years\, these two\, now living in different states\, still get the weave going whenever they can. We can’t say exactly what’s gonna happen at an Eisenhower Bros. session\, uncharted territory\, but it’ll probably feel pretty good. Why Eisenhower? Well\, Milt’s long run with Four Piece Suit digs deep into influences from the 1950s-60s\, somebody called it Eisenhower music. That era has become even rosier\, as it represents a decency in public life that has become increasingly elusive. Plus one of the guys is named Dwight\, and guess what! …”Ike” had a brother named Milton. And by an even more unlikely auspicious synchronicity\, Milton Eisenhower\, during his tenure as president of Johns Hopkins University\, was a mentor to a fledgling Freshman\, playing bass in an Acid Jazz band (before the term had been coined) for strippers on Baltimore’s notorious “Block”… Milt Reder. So full circle. Could be good…ya never know. \n\n\nA relentless road warrior and masterful wordsmith\, Ryan Montbleau has spent the better part of thirty years cultivating a devoted audience on the strength of his ecstatic live shows and exhilarating sonic versatility. He’s collaborated with artists as diverse as Trombone Shorty\, Galactic\, Steel Pulse\, Tall Heights\, Martin Sexton\, Anders Osborne\, and George Porter\, Jr; shared bills with the likes of Tedeschi Trucks Band\, Ani DiFranco\, Todd Snider\, The Wood Brothers\, Rodrigo y Gabriela\, and Mavis Staples; and racked up more than 150 million streams on Spotify alone. NPR’s Mountain Stage compared his “eloquent\, soulful songwriting” to Bill Withers and James Taylor\, while Relix celebrated his “poetic Americana\,” and The Boston Herald raved that “he’s made a career of confident\, danceable positivity.” \n \nhttps://www.ryanmontbleau.com/

SUMMARY:Dwayne Haggins Live At The Lizard Lounge
DESCRIPTION:Dwayne Haggins returns to the Lizard Lounge July 25th!\n\n\n$15 adv/$20 door \nDoors 8 \n \nHe’s been described as “the love child of Hank Williams and Sam Cooke.” “The John Legend of rockabilly.” And even\, “the ‘what-took-you-so-long?’ fusion of Elvis Presley and Marvin Gaye.” Notably\, Dwayne Haggins has shared the stage with acts such as Keb Mo\, Joe Bonamassa\, George Thorogood\, Eric Gales\, Brittney Spencer\, John Oats\, Charles Wesley Godwin and more. \nAt every performance\, whether in a venerable metropolitan concert hall or a grimy dive in an anonymous strip mall\, Dwayne is always at work. Adding new subtleties to an obvious melody line. Reinterpreting a time-worn lyrical cliché to imbue it anew with genuine feeling. Unleashing a gentle cascade of vocal acrobatics when least expected (and hence most effective) — never for show alone\, but always to express a likewise unanticipated nuance of feeling: a whisper of love\, a curse of anger\, a groan of pain\, a whoop of joy that feels\, paradoxically\, both surprising and inevitable at the same moment. \n“A look at a typical set list from singer-guitarist Dwayne Haggins would reveal that he’s as comfortable covering rockabilly (Carl Perkins’ “Blue Suede Shoes”) and funk (Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition”) as he is with his own material.”” \n— Ed Symkus \n \nDwayne Haggins

SUMMARY:Lady Lupine/The Endorphins/Chris Cardone
DESCRIPTION:Lady Lupine live at the Lizard Lounge with the Endorphins and Chris Cardone August 8th!\n\n\n$15/$20 door \nDoor 8 \n \nLady Lupine is a Boston based heavy soul band that delivers high energy performances of unique original material. The band creates an engaging live experience by cultivating visceral connections through sound. Fronted by vocalist Christina Lacoste\, Lady Lupine draws inspiration from the soul of Amy Winehouse\, and the sonic eclecticism of Portishead. Traces of Vulfpeck’s tight\, technical funk\, and Jimi Hendrix’s fuzz rock grooves can be heard in the band’s sound as well. In 2017\, Lady Lupine was formed and began developing material that combines the respective members’ loves of classic soul and more modern\, heavy rock. Jon and Josh provide a driving and edgy underlying layer that supports Christina and Fran’s soulful leads. Lady Lupine released their debut EP Trust in October 2019 followed by Extended Plays released in 2021. \n \nLadyLupine.com \n\n\nThe Endorphins are a Boston-based trio fusing raw emotion with heavy textures and soaring melodies. Since forming in 2014\, the band—Matt Bass (guitar/vocals)\, Austin Wilson (bass)\, and Jeff Walsh (drums)—has carved out a sound that lives somewhere between the haze of shoegaze and the punch of grunge\, tied together by the heart of alternative rock. With immersive live shows and songs that balance grit and atmosphere\, The Endorphins create a sonic space that feels both intimate and explosive. \nThe Endorphins \n\n\nChris Cardone’s been working with his electric guitar since 2011 as 1/3 of North Shore rock band Heavy Necker. Drawing inspiration from the rock\, jazz\, and blues greats of contemporary music\, his style shoots with sincere lyricism and a heavy picking hand.

SUMMARY:Which Side?: A Protest Music Teach Out
DESCRIPTION:A concert and discussion series celebrating and exploring protest music beginning August 13th!\n\n\nPay What You Want \nDoors 7\, Music 8 \nWhich Side?: A Protest Music Teach-Out is a concert and discussion series celebrating and exploring protest music. The events will use James Sullivan’s book\, Which Side Are You On?: 20th Century American History in 100 Protest Songs\, as a starting point for the presentation of songs that ask listeners to consider how music gives voice to resistance\, advocacy\, and change. While the series will anchor itself to the book\, collaborators will also contribute 21st-century music\, both originals and covers. \nScheduled to perform on August 13 are Kemp Harris\, Dave Herlihy (O Positive)\, David Santos (Eddie Japan)\, Laurie Sargent with Dana Colley\, Naomi Westwater\, and Judge Milton Wright (Black Nativity). They will be backed by the house band\, The Paid Protesters\, led by Ed Valauskas\, with Anthony Kaczynski (Magnetic Fields)\, Paul Buckley\, Magen Tracy\, and Mike Oram. Each performer will do a song inspired by Sullivan’s book\, and a song of their own. \nThe 90-minute show will also feature commentary by Sullivan\, and a short panel discussion at the end. \nThe show is scheduled to begin promptly at 8 p.m. \nAdmission is pay-what-you-want\, with all proceeds going to the musicians and other direct expenses. Tickets can be reserved\, but a reservation does not guarantee entry unless you are in the room by 7:30 p.m. If there are people waiting for entry\, reservations will be released starting at that time. \nIf there are any profits after workers are paid\, they will be donated to an appropriate non-profit fighting for intellectual freedom in our nation’s courts. \nThis series is produced by Joyce Linehan\, Jon Lupfer\, James Sullivan\, and Ed Valauskas\, with the help of many generous friends.
