SUMMARY:Which Side?: A Protest Music Teach Out
DESCRIPTION:A concert and discussion series celebrating and exploring protest music continues September 17th!\n\n\nPay What You Want \nDoors 7\, Music 8 \n \nWhich Side?: A Protest Music Teach-Out is a concert and discussion series celebrating and exploring protest music. The events will use James Sullivan’s book\, Which Side Are You On?: 20th Century American History in 100 Protest Songs\, as a starting point for the presentation of songs that ask listeners to consider how music gives voice to resistance\, advocacy\, and change. While the series will anchor itself to the book\, collaborators will also contribute 21st-century music\, both originals and covers. \nScheduled to perform on September 17 are Haasan Barclay\, David Champagne (Treat Her Right)\, Ezra Furman\, Bob Pernice\, Veronica Robles\, and Ryan Walsh (Hallelujah the Hills) \nThey will be backed by the house band\, The Paid Protesters\, led by Ed Valauskas\, Paul Buckley\, Magen Tracy\, and Mike Oram. Each performer will do a song inspired by Sullivan’s book\, and a song of their own. \nThe 90-minute show will also feature commentary by Sullivan\, and a short panel discussion at the end. \nThe show is scheduled to begin promptly at 8 p.m. \nAdmission is pay-what-you-want\, with all proceeds going to the musicians and other direct expenses. Tickets can be reserved\, but a reservation does not guarantee entry unless you are in the room by 7:30 p.m. If there are people waiting for entry\, reservations will be released starting at that time. \nIf there are any profits after workers are paid\, they will be donated to an appropriate non-profit fighting for intellectual freedom in our nation’s courts. \nThis series is produced by Joyce Linehan\, Jon Lupfer\, James Sullivan\, and Ed Valauskas\, with the help of many generous friends. Artwork by Joanne Kaliontzis.

SUMMARY:High Tea/Chris Walton/Prateek
DESCRIPTION:High Tea\, Chris Walton and Prateek live at the Lizard Lounge Sept 18th at 8pm!\n\n\n$15 adv/$20 door \nDoors 7 \n \nHigh Tea\, the folk-punk “story-yelling” duo hailing from Massachusetts\, is what happens when a yarn-spinning blues guitarist meets a harmony-obsessed punk. Isabella DeHerdt and Isaac Eliot have come together to fill spaces with homegrown tales and booming vocals. Their songs are ripe with existential angst\, weaving narratives of growing up\, going wild\, and always coming back to the ones you love. \n \nTheir previous releases\, Scuba Diving\, Old Cowboy\, and The Wick And The Flame were featured on playlists\, radio shows\, and publications like The Boston Globe\, The Greenfield Recorder (among others). The title track of Old Cowboy led them to be chosen as one of WBUR’s top 4 Massachusetts Tiny Desk entries of 2022. They toured The Wick And The Flame on the West Coast\, in New England\, and throughout other US States and received write ups from Atwood’s Magazine\, The Boston Herald\, and more. They were nominated for the New England Music Awards Best Americana Act in 2023\, and were selected to perform in the Grassy Hill Emerging Artist Showcase at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in 2025. \n \nDespite its name\, there’s nothing little about High Tea’s upcoming album\, A Small Notion. Listeners are led through an inspiringly personal journey\, from the disoriented yearning of loss\, to an appreciation of the brutal realities of rough living\, to tender reflections on past mistakes\, to an ultimate acceptance of the all-too-human need for community and care. As ever\, the Massachusetts duo is heavily committed to marrying intensely beautiful lyrical storytelling with congruent and energetically contagious instrumental arrangements. Without a doubt\, A Small Notion is some of High Tea’s most honest\, eye-opening\, and cathartic work yet. \nhttps://www.highteaband.com/ \n\n\nChris is a singer-songwriter who holds down lead guitar/vocals for his 5-piece band\, but can easily strip it down and perform solo. Chris can go from getting you into your feels with heartfelt lyrics\, to making you groove with funky\, soulful beats. His jazz-kissed folk music is inspired by the likes of Cory Wong\, early John Mayer\, and Tom Misch.www.chriswaltonmusic.com \n\n\nWith his heartbreakingly powerful voice and incisive lyrics\, Prateek (pruh – TEEK) has been described as “Not just any guy with a guitar…” by The Boston Globe. When you hear his music\, you’ll believe it too. Evolving away from the spare\, Dylan-esque sound of his first EP\, Prateek’s latest album “‘Til June” adds gritty electric guitars\, silvery backing vocals\, and a driving rhythm section\, all in service of his tightly written\, evocative songcraft. Prateek has been a Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Finalist and has been nominated for Singer-Songwriter of the Year at both the New England Music Awards and the Boston Music Awards. His music has seen rotation all over the radio including Sirius XM\, 98.9 WERS\, and 92.5 The River. Listen to “‘Til June” now wherever music is sold or streamed. \nPrateek

SUMMARY:Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam-Rohan Nijhawan
DESCRIPTION:The Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam with featured poet Rohan Nijhawan Sept 21st!\n\n\n$10 \nRohan Nijhawan is a 35-year-old Cambridge-born poet and activist. Born with a one-of-a-kind\, unknown disease\, Rohan has experienced the ups and downs in life. Although he has a disability\, Rohan does not let that disability define him. He has been skydiving twice in California\, mountain biking in Colorado\, snorkeling in Jamaica\, and most recently\, meeting His Holiness\, the Dalai Lama. He is a self-described life of the party\, as many of his friends can attest to. Rohan gave his friends and family a challenge: describe his poetry in one word. Some of the words that came up were: revolutionary\, smooth-truths\, insightful\, and introspective. Rohan tells a powerful story through his poetry and activism. His biggest influence in his poetry\, and\, for that matter\, his life is The Legend himself\, Robert Nesta Marley. Rohan just published his first book titled Tick Tock Tempestuous: Poems of Love\, Death\, Angst & Humanity in the fall of 2023. \nLizard Lounge Poetry Jam

SUMMARY:Fully Celebrated Orchestra/I Want A Cat
DESCRIPTION:Fully Celebrated Orchestra returns to the Lizard Lounge Sept 24th with I Want A Cat!\n\n\n$12/$15 door \nThe Fully Celebrated Orchestra has been a force on the Boston music scene since saxophonist/composer Jim Hobbs and bassist Timo Shanko started playing free jazz at punk rock clubs and street corners in the late 1980s. Still going strong as underground legends over three decades later\, FCO also features cornetist Taylor Ho Bynum\, drummer Luther Gray\, and guitarist Ian Ayers. Their latest album\, Sob Story on Relative Pitch Records\, was released in February ’24. \n \nI Want a Cat engages in the long forgotten practices of ritualistic shapeshifting and shadow integration. They do it to summon the inner cat in all of us and to merge our exiled selves with the modern machinations of the disembodied robotic society. To maximize efficacy\, they keep their sacred tools as diverse as they are loud – fiddle shredding\, explosive guitar playing\, driving basslines\, melodic drumming\, longform storytelling\, choreographed dance\, balls of yarn\, and tons of catnip..like\, a TON of catnip.

SUMMARY:I Get Wild "Plays Remain In Light"/Thank God for Science
DESCRIPTION:Thank God For Science returns to the Lizard Lounge with I Get Wild Plays “Remain In Light” October 9th!\n\n\n$15/$20 Door \nDoors 7 \n \nThank God For Science is a one of a kind musical medium that explores sonic and musical vocabularies. \nJeremy Moses Curtis (Booker T\, Jeffrey Foucault) compiled years of home studio demos and with the help of some trusted musicians\, shaped them into an instrumental record titled: “Volume One”. The core studio band of drummer Peter MacLean (Maceo Parker)\, The Blue Ribbons’ James Rohr on keyboards / Mike Castellana on guitar\, recorded the initial basics over a weekend with the help of producer Marc Pinansky. In the following months\, Laurence Scudder (Brothers McCann) added his refined blend of natural and effected Viola while Barry Rothman (Radio Swan) channeled sounds from the ether via vintage turntables and effect pedals to round out a recording whose unique aural atmosphere is wholly its own. Since then\, the players have performed dozens of shows\, released “Live”\, “Humans Are Special” and coalesced into what is now known as Thank God For Science: a group that continues to search for harmony\, chaos\, enlightenment\, and every note in between. \nThank God For Science \nThank God For Science Insta \n\n\nNot a tribute. Not a nostalgia trip. Not a museum piece. \nSince 2016\, we’ve been destroying the boundary between tribute and transformation. This isn’t about perfect recreation—it’s about mindful and continual reinterpretation. \nWe don’t cover songs. We metabolize them. \nEvery performance is an experiment. Every show is an exploration and celebration of a shared musical memory. We’re not here to make you comfortable. We’re here to make you feel something at once familiar and unexpected. \nTalking Heads created a body of work that challenged everything. We continue that mission—one deconstruction party at a time. \nI Get Wild \nI Get Wild Insta \nI Get Wild Facebook
