SUMMARY:The Arcanauts "3" Record Release with The After Times
DESCRIPTION:The Arcanauts celebrate the release of their third album “3” with the After Times live at the Lizard Lounge Oct 24th at 8pm!\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n$15/$18 \nDoors at 7 \nThe Arcanauts bring a universal yet unique perspective to the saxophone-bass-drums outfit. Drummer David Moore\, bassist Greg Toro\, and woodwind multi-instrumentalist Joe Albano have been performing with each other in various ensembles since the early 2000’s\, and have developed a unique chemistry\, only possible through the range of music the trio has played together. Listen to a set of the Arcanauts’music and you will hear threads of styles from throughout jazz history\, woven together seamlessly with nods to free improvisation\, American folkloric and popular music\, and broader African diaspora musical language. \n\n\nJoe Musacchia\, Josiah Reibstein\, and Malcolm Campbell are all from Lexington\, MA and currently continue to reside in the Boston area. They have been playing together since middle school in various ensembles and musical occurrences\, and have remained close friends throughout decades. \nAll three are active contributors to the Boston/Cambridge community\, musically\, artistically\, and otherwise. Malcolm is a graduate of the Harvard/NEC double degree program and continues to pursue his academic research as a neuroscience post-doctoral research fellow at Harvard University while performing in his free time. Joe is a senior software engineer by day\, an on-call videographer and photographer\, working with many luminaries in the Boston jazz scene and beyond – and is also a first-call drummer for many\, many musical groups. Josiah is an active full-time free-lancer on multiple instruments\, leading and playing as a sideman in a variety of ensembles. He also leads the Downtown Boston Brass\, which performs several days a week in the Downtown Crossing area of Boston through the Business Improvement District. \nThe After Times formed during the COVID lockdown of 2020\, when the three childhood friends decided to get together in their respective yards on a semi-regular basis to play music. What started as a loose session for stretching out on standards turned into a workshop for original music\, and eventually\, when restrictions began to open up again\, a working band.

SUMMARY:Dub Apocalypse feat Mister Rourke
DESCRIPTION:Dub Apocolypse returns to the Lizard Lounge with Mister Rourke!\n\n\nEvent is 21+$20/$25 door \nDoors at 8 \nDub Apocalypse is an instrumental dub reggae band from Boston\, MA. Band members are Tommy Benedetti-drums\,Van Martin-guitar\,Johnny Trama-guitar\,Aaron Bellamy-bass\,and Timo Shanko-sax/bass. The band came together in 2007\, led by drummer Tommy Benedetti and guitarist\, Johnny Trama.Tommy Benedetti is one of the founding members of American Reggae Pioneers\,John Brown’s Body. He brings a wealth of experience from the reggae/dub scene to the table\,having recorded albums for the legendary Shanachie Label\,John Zorn’s Tzadik Label (mixed by Bill Laswell)\,and is currently with John Brown’s Body on Easy Star Records. This history is combined with almost 2 decades of International touring\,as well as backing some of the giants of Jamaican music\,including The Meditations and Justin Hinds. \nGuitarist Johnny Trama adds a soulful blues touch to the Dub Apocalypse signature sound.Trama has spent time on the road with the great Ron Levy\, BB King’s organ player\, as well as many other regional rock and soul/r&b acts. Not long after Dub Apocalypse came together\, longtime friend Timo Shanko entered the fold.A dual threat on both bass and saxophone\,Shanko is a veteran of the blues and free jazz scene. He spent many years on the road with Blues legend\, Eddie Kirkland\, as well as with G. Love and Special Sauce. Shanko is also a prolific composer\,and his improvisational stylings are an integral part of the Dub Apocalypse sound. Although DA started out as more of a collective\,in the past few years the lineup has solidified with the addition of bassist Aaron Bellamy and guitarist Van Martin. Bellamy is a longtime fixture in the Boston funk scene\,and in combination with Benedetti \,they form the deep\,militant sound at the core of Dub Apocalypse. \nOriginally hailing from Chicago\,Van Martin rounds out the lineup on guitar. Martin has much touring experience as well\, including appearances with Bernie Worrell and Big Daddy Kane. His sonic textures\,adventurous playing and songwriting have helped Dub Apocalypse take their sound to a new level. The DA sound is an evolving mix of original compositions and their own interpretations of classic Jamaican and UK songs and dub plates. Heavy hitting drum and bass grooves set the table. A twin guitar attack\, with Trama’s rhythmic anchor\,and Martin’s dub sonics\, swirl in and out in tandem. These pieces\, combined with Timo Shanko’s Coltrane inspired sax approach\, give Dub Apocalypse a

SUMMARY:Club d'Elf Halloween Show featuring Jeff Lockhart!
DESCRIPTION:Club d’Elf Halloween Spooktacular featuring Jeff Lockhart.\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n$30/$35 GA \n$75 Reserved \nHalloween has long been a sacred (scared?!) day for Club d’Elf\, and its Lizard / Halloween shows are a long-standing tradition that took a pause during the pandemic\, returning full force last year. This year the band continues the tradition but with a show on the very day itself\, featuring a creepy line up of Jeff Lockhart (guitar)\, Tom Hall (sax)\, Paul Schultheis (keys)\, Mister Rourke (turntables)\, Mike Rivard (bass & sintir) and Fabio Pirozzolo (drums). Costumes are encouraged! \nClub d’Elf has been helping audiences lose track of time for twenty five years with its mesmerizing synthesis of Moroccan traditional music and electronic\, dubbed-out funk. Circling about bassist/composer Mike Rivard\, each Club d’Elf performance features a different line-up\, drawn from a constellation of some of the most creative improvisers from the jazz\, DJ\, rock & world music scenes of Boston\, NYC and beyond. The band’s music draws from a startlingly wide spectrum of styles\, including jazz\, hip hop\, electronica\, avant garde\, prog-rock and dub. Under the tutelage of now deceased member Brahim Fribgane\, Moroccan trance music became an essential part of the mix\, featuring Rivard’s commanding playing of the Moroccan sintir. Trance forms the central core of the Club d’Elf aesthetic\, weaving together the band’s various influences. \n“You Never Know is a wide ranging romp\, full of serenity\, chaos\, longing\, improvisation and peerless musicianship inspired by music from India and Morocco as well as the maverick jazz of Miles Davis and Frank Zappa.” – Banning Eyre\, Afropop Worldwide \n“Crushed between the borders of Morocco\, jam band land and the kingdom of avant-garde jazz lies Club d’Elf…James Brown-meets-Sun-Ra.” – Jed Gottlieb\, Boston Herald \n“Sounds like the lovechild of Pink Floyd and George Clinton\, dropped in Marrakesh…some deeply psychedelic music.” – Marlon Bishop\, WNYC \nClub d’Elf

SUMMARY:SESSION AMERICANA with Eleanor Buckland Residency Night 1
DESCRIPTION:Event is 21+ \nGA $25/$30 at the door \nReserved Tables $60 \nDoors at 7 \nSESSION AMERICANA is thrilled to return to the venue that saw the group gel into what has become a 20 year journey of accessing the joy. For years the band held down a weekly Lizard residency that not only formed the core of the band’s support but also witnessed the birth of many new songs and introduced a wide variety of musical guests to an unsuspecting crowd each week. SESSION AMERICANA with Eleanor Buckland will once again call The Lizard Lounge home for four consecutive nights this November 19-22 \nFor the uninitiated SESSION AMERICANA is a cast of top-shelf players\, singers\, and writers who tour internationally\, taking their own songs\, plus hundreds more from the American songbook\, on the road. Whether you catch Session Americana in a rock hall or on a festival stage\, you’ll be a part of the intimate\, raucous scene these players built years ago at Toad\, the neighborhood bar where it all began in Cambridge\, Massachusetts. Looking back\, the group has had a natural\, almost inevitable evolution from a loose bunch of friends sitting around swapping songs in a bar\, to a hot-ticket weekly residency\, to a touring collective. Along the way\, the band has made nine records (so far)\, played clubs and festivals across the U.S. and Europe\, and developed deep collaborative bonds with a wide community of musicians. Session Americana’s diligent avoidance of music business “shoulds” has led the band down a quirky and joyful path through the music world. The result is evident in the musical prowess the players and singers bring to every show. Swapping instruments\, trading off lead vocals and sharing songwriting credits\, Session Americana is constantly exploring new collaborations and touring like a band out of time\, always searching for a welcoming and homey venue\, a long lunch with old friends\, and a good glass of wine. \nhttps://www.sessionamericana.com/

SUMMARY:Four Piece Suit/Fran McConville Trio
DESCRIPTION:We’ve got the perfect spot for you to kick off your holiday weekend\, Four Piece Suit and the Fran McConville Trio live Nov 27th!\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n$12/$15 door \nDoors at 7 \nFour Piece Suit is “a highball of sea-foam-soaked guitar and squalling tenor sax\, shaken—not stirred—with surf tangos\, Battista-era mambos\, beach blanket boppers\, spy music\, crime jazz\, and movie themes.” The predominantly instrumental group brings humor\, romance and a pulsing rhythm to the category-defying range musical styles they reinvent. Heard on soundtracks for Sex and the City and Dexter\, Four Piece Suit puts on a sizzling live show. \nThe band is: Milt Reder on guitar\, John Aruda on sax\, Dean Cassell on bass and Seth Pappas on drums. For more on 4PS\, please visit www.fourpiecesuit.com. Truly beyond category\, their eclectic instrumental\, sometimes jazz\, sometimes rock style\, brings forth a unique blend of long forgotten musical influences and often suggests a certain film noir feeling. \nThe sexy\, sophisticated\, yet tongue-in-cheek music of FOUR PIECE SUIT is frequently featured on the highly acclaimed HBO series Sex and the City\, Telemundo\, NBC’s Ed\, Dexter on CBS\, and cable shows such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians\, America’s Top Model\, Run’s House\, and many others. Film work includes Our Lips are Sealed (Olsen Twins)\, In the Weeds (Molly Ringwald)\, Stag (HBO films)\, Psycho Beach Party\, Along Came Polly (Jennifer Aniston)\, and others. \nThe band has also been heard in many independent films\, including Sundance Festival Winner Blue Vinyl. They have also done a full score for an HBO claymation film\, Real Men Wear Hawaiian Shirts\, an award winner at the San Francisco Film Festival. \nLike many of the greatest bands\, only at a live show can one really “get” what FOUR PIECE SUIT is all about… \nhttps://fourpiecesuitband.com \n\n\nThe Fran McConville Trio plays an eclectic\, cosmic blend of instrumental rock\, groove & reggae music. We like to get weird and play in odd time signatures\, go to outer space\, and come back again. Members of the FMT have played with Lions At The Gate\, Lady Lupine\, Ethan Rossiter Band\, Sonya Rae Taylor\, and others! \n \nSome artists that have had a big influence are The Beatles\, Miles Davis\, Jimi Hendrix\, John Scofield\, Jeff Beck\, Jerry Garcia\, Bela Fleck\, & MMW.

SUMMARY:Flying Vipers/Trio Kobeta Ya Makasi
DESCRIPTION:Flying Vipers celebrate their debut 7″ release for Easy Star records with Trio Kobeta Ya Makasi November 29th at the Lizard Lounge!\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n$15/$20 Door \nDoors at 8 \n \nFlying Vipers emerged from a basement lair outside Boston Mass in 2015\, releasing a couple cassette EPs worth of raw yet highly melodic dub (The Green Tape and The Copper Tape). Entirely produced on an antiquated 4-track cassette recorder and mixed live by Jay Champnay of 10 Ft. Ganja Plant\, this amateur equipment is wielded by seasoned pros as their songs mutate with a keen sense of classic JA sounds and post-punk experimentation. \nTypically a 7-piece unit live\, the core quartet of twin brothers Marc & John Beaudette on drum & bass (Destroy Babylon\, The Macrotones)\, Zack Brines on keys (Pressure Cooker\, Kings of Nuthin’)\, and Kellee Webb on vocals (Destroy Babylon) have 20+ years in the New England scene\, sharing the stage with legendary reggae acts from around the world\, including Burning Spear\, Lee “Scratch” Perry\, the Skatalites\, and Hollie Cook\, among many others. \nThis November\, the Vipers will be celebrating the release of their new 7″ single\, “Show Me”\, their debut for Easy Star Records. \nhttps://flyingvipers.com/ \n \nKobeta ya Makasi (Lingala: “hitting it hard!”) is the new trio led by Nathaniel Braddock (Occidental Brothers\, Air Congo\, Accra Quartet) with King Eric and Kilo Bass: two Congolese musicians raised in Kampala\, Uganda. The group are sebenologues\, pushing the edges of contemporary ndombolo and soukous into new worlds of dub\, shoegaze\, surf\, and Central African “bofenya rock.” The sound is now.
