SUMMARY:Le Prestige/Fully Celebrated Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Le Prestige and Fully Celebrated Orchestra live at the Lizard Lounge January 22nd at 8pm!\n\n\n$12/$15 door \n \nLe Prestige is an instrumental and improvisational music group based in Somerville and Cambridge\, Massachusetts. Their original songs are primarily influenced by the spirit of 60’s soul jazz and the big beats and loops of 90’s hip-hop and electronica. Taking an organic and low-tech approach to these sounds\, the tunes feature horn-driven melodies and expressive soloing over funk\, jazz\, reggae and disco grooves. Live sets are peppered with select covers such as “Wichita Lineman” and the “Theme from S.W.A.T”.The band consists of bandleader and composer Chris Forky on upright bass\, John Glenshaw on drums\, David Johnston on guitar\, Gary Wallen on vibraphone\, Michael Mclaughlin on accordion\, Scott Getchell on trumpets and flugelhorn\, Kit Buckley on tenor sax\, Charles Morrell on alto sax and flute\, and Dana Colley (Morphine) on baritone and tenor saxes. \n \nThe Fully Celebrated Orchestra has been a force on the Boston music scene since saxophonist/composer Jim Hobbs and bassist Timo Shanko started playing free jazz at punk rock clubs and street corners in the late 1980s. Still going strong as underground legends over three decades later\, FCO also features cornetist Taylor Ho Bynum\, drummer Luther Gray\, and guitarist Ian Ayers. Their latest album\, Sob Story on Relative Pitch Records\, was released in February ’24.

SUMMARY:The Mail/Autumn Hollow/American Beauties
DESCRIPTION:The Mail\, Autumn Hollow and American Beauties live at the Lizard Lounge January 29th.\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n$15/$18 door \nThe Mail emerged from the vibrant music scene of Boston in 2016\, born out of a shared passion for sonic experimentation and storytelling. Composed of members Jeremy Van Cleave\, Joe Campbell\, Nathaniel Diamond-Jones\, Matt Hines\, and Curtis Hartshorn\, this ensemble quickly made waves with their distinct blend of folk rock and alternative influences. \nDriven by a mutual desire to carve out their own musical niche\, The Mail’s sound is characterized by Jeremy’s introspective lyrics\, Curtis’s unique drumming\, Matt’s creative chord voicings\, Joe’s deep bass pocket\, and Nathaniel’s distinctive approach to fiddle. Together\, they create a sonic landscape that is both emotive and immersive\, weaving together layers of sound to evoke a range of emotions. \nSince their formation\, The Mail has been a fixture in Boston’s music scene\, captivating audiences with their electrifying live performances and dynamic stage presence. Their debut album\, “Lights On\,” released in 2018\, received widespread acclaim for its poignant lyricism and infectious melodies. \nWith each release\, The Mail continues to push the boundaries of alternative music\, exploring new sonic territories while staying true to their roots. As they embark on their musical journey\, The Mail invites listeners to join them on a voyage of self-discovery and sonic exploration. \n\n\nDon’t let the name fool you — Autumn Hollow can guide you through every month of the year. The Boston band’s homespun Americana shapeshifts with the seasons\, weaving a warm strain of roots rock that’s ideal for soaking in sunny days or providing shelter from the storm. Their EP Throw the House (released via Oak House Records) marks the group’s first new material in seven years\, quickly earning them features on 88.9 WERS and 92.5 The River. Even as the fall closes in\, Autumn Hollow are just heating up: The band’s recent activity has sparked nominations at the Boston Music Awards and New England Music Awards\, solidifying their status as veterans in the scene. As Autumn Hollow spread their tunes at storied venues like The Paradise Rock Club\, Club Passim\, and City Winery\, their live storytelling fans those new embers into flames\, keeping listeners in Boston — and everywhere — comforted for years to come. \nAutumn Hollow \n\n\nAmerican Beauties is an original independent folk-rock band from Boston\, Massachusetts. The music is reminiscent of the West Coast folk-rock bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s and mixes both contemporary and roots influences. The band’s sound has been likened to CSNY\, The Byrds\, Fairport Convention\, The Jayhawks\, and Wilco. \nAmerican Beauties

SUMMARY:Thalia Zedek Band/Field Day/Arto Vaun
DESCRIPTION:Thalia Zedek\, Field Day and Arto Vaun live at the Lizard Lounge on Feb 7th\n\n\nEvent is 21+ \n$15 adv/$20 door \nDoors at 8 \nField Day formed proverbially\, in a basement\, and unexpectedly\, when its members were well into middle age. Joan Anderman was a neophyte\, having left her longtime post as rock critic at The Boston Globe and set out to become a songwriter. Her former Globe colleague Dan Zedek\, veteran of numerous college bands\, was sitting on a stash of songs written in his head while riding the train to work. The band’s original drummer John Kehe offered his gear-filled basement for weekend song circles. The chemistry was potent. These songs and these songwriters belonged together. With the addition of bassist Larla O’Halloran and drummer Chuck Hargreaves\, Field Day has become an unlikely upstart on the Boston club scene\, playing rock music with scrappy hooks\, dreamy harmonies\, and irrepressible spirit. \nField Day \n\n\nThalia Zedek is an artist of immutable stature and unceasing vitality. The legendary songwriter’s fiery voice and frank lyricism give her songs both their emotional potency and their stark beauty. Zedek is able to distill complex events into simple\, clear\, and at times monumentally weighty moments with a singular grace. Through ballads or bluster\, Zedek imbues her music with unguarded honesty. New album Perfect Vision examines the anxiety and pain of rising divisions between people both physical and ideological. On Perfect Vision\, Zedek transmutes fervor and resilience into sobering laments\, while her lush arrangements wrap the listener in an often complex emotional message. \nThalia Zedek \n\n\nArto Vaun is a musician & poet originally from Boston. He has shared bills (first as Mishima USA) with artists such as Rufus Wainwright\, Daniel Johnston\, Ben Kweller\, Kimya Dawson\, Mark Eitzel\, & the War on Drugs. \n \nArto Vaun

DJ sets by lilith February 19th!\n\n\n$15 adv/$20 door \nlilith is a Boston-based DJ and producer taking the familiarity of hip hop and adding a jolt of footwork\, quickly carving out a niche with their brainy beats and kinetic sets.. Driven by the pulse of the beat scene they share with friends and peers\, alongside influences like Dazegxd\, Knxwledge\, and SOPHIE\, lilith’s rise has been fueled by a passion to connect and inspire. \nLAVAGXRL\, the Boston-based producer\, singer\, rapper\, and songwriter\, channels the chaos of modern life into a deeply personal musical journey. Originally from Washington\, DC\, they moved to Boston to study music\, drawing inspiration from emo\, hip-hop\, and jazz to create a glitchy\, atmospheric sound. LAVAGXRL’s debut album\, Faith in Chaos (2023)\, is a reflection of their unrestrained creativity\, and serves as both a cathartic release and a source of spiritual healing. LAVAGXRL embraces melancholy\, exploring the healing power of music and connection\, while also confronting themes of trauma\, anxiety\, and emotional vulnerability. Faith in Chaos is an essential reminder that despite the absurdity that surrounds us\, there is beauty in simply being alive. \nInfusing her jazz background with contemporary pop influences to create an effervescent blend of soulful alt-pop\, Dear Dea speaks to the heart. The lone Finnish-born member of her family\, Dear Dea’s journey is a testament to resilience and self-discovery. Navigating between being a daughter of immigrants in Helsinki and her years spent in the bustling streets of New York City\, she pulls from her diverse experiences to craft music that taps into the universal human condition. Drawing parallels to Yebba\, Cleo Sol\, MICHELLE\, and Moonchild\, Dear Dea guides audiences sonically through boundless strength and authenticity\, poised to be an artist on the rise as she carves out her path in the industry. \nMingko\, Abigail Zachko is a talented guitarist\, singer-songwriter\, and creative force known for their genre-blending style. Drawing inspiration from artists like Alfa Mist\, BADBADNOTGOOD\, Bjork\, and MNDSGN\, she seeks to create high states of introspection and euphoria with her compositions to create limitless soundscapes and human experiences. In 2024\, Chaiah received Berklee’s prestigious Career Jam Concert music production award and a scholarship to complete her studies at the college. She recently released her debut album\, Control Release\, a euphoric\, autobiographical project that carries a distinctly personal narrative woven through lush grooves\, layered electronic textures\, and live instrumentation—a loving homage to her roots in the Buenos Aires’ music scene.
