SUMMARY:Soggy Po Boys and special guests The A-Beez
DESCRIPTION:Soggy Po Boys return to the Lizard Lounge October 9th at 8pm with special guests The A-Beez!\n\n\n$20 adv/$25 door \nDoors 7 \nThe Soggy Po Boys\, native to New England\, have quickly become an institution. They are spreading the good news of New Orleans music across the northeast and beyond\, playing at concert halls and street corners; music festivals and burlesque festivals; bars and libraries; wherever the party requires. Part of the beauty of New Orleans music is that it’s celebrated and appreciated wherever it goes\, from the street to the theater. \nThe Po Boys formed in 2012 to shake the walls of a local club on a Fat Tuesday but have honed their sound and become more than a Mardi Gras centerpiece. Exploring the vast musical traditions of New Orleans and expanding their repertoire to look beyond NOLA jazz\, the band includes traditional Caribbean tunes (it’s been said that New Orleans is the northernmost city in the Caribbean)\, as well as Meters funk\, soul\, and brass band / street beat music. \nThere are a myriad of traditions that flow into New Orleans culture just as there are tributaries that feed the Mississippi\, and the Po Boys are eager to explore what makes the music of New Orleans so damn special. You’ll hear the heavy influence of the New Orleans sound across the band and in the stories told by their original tunes. Despite the scope of its sound\, the outfit is only seven people\, and thrives on the interplay and group dynamics that bring this music to life. \n  \nSoggy Po Boys \n\n\nThe A-Beez are a powerhouse collective born from Boston’s thriving soul and funk scene\, led by keyboardist Amy Bellamy and bassist Aaron Bellamy. Known for their fearless blend of soul\, funk\, R&B\, hip-hop\, and jazz\, The A-Beez deliver music that grooves hard\, feels deep\, and never stops evolving. \nLongtime creative and life partners\, Amy and Aaron began building their sound in the early 2000s as part of the Sam Kininger Band. Since then\, they’ve toured internationally\, shared stages and studio credits with a long list of musical heavyweights—including Chaka Khan\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, G. Love\, Res\, Club d’Elf\, and members of Earth\, Wind & Fire\, The Nth Power\, and Snarky Puppy. \nOver the past decade\, The A-Beez have become a cornerstone of Boston’s music community\, with a long-running residency at the legendary Wally’s Jazz Café and regular appearances up and down the East Coast. Onstage\, the group expands into a rotating ensemble of Boston’s most elite players—including vocalists\, horn sections\, and guest artists—with an unmistakable chemistry and infectious live energy. \nThe band has released three critically praised albums of original music:\nNever Going Back (2015)\nSay Goodbye (2018)\nReclamation (2021)\nEach project weaves raw lyrical honesty with deep-pocket grooves and genre-bending arrangements\, wrapped in rich\, unpolished production that favors feel over perfection. \nThe A-Beez aren’t just a band—they’re a movement of groove\, soul\, and truth. Whether on stage or in the studio\, they bring music that’s rooted\, righteous\, and ready to move you. \nThe A-Beez have been critically acclaimed as: \n“…hard thumping bass grooves\, on a mission to get every last body in motion” \n“…(Amy Bellamy’s) perfectly placed phrasings make the funk all the more delectable.” \n“…the funkiest couple on the planet.” \nThe A-Beez showcase a rotating cast of extraordinarily talented musicians in the live performances\, making each show a unique experience. Vocalists Melissa Bolling\, Debo Ray\, and Nephrok! hold down the front line\, with guitarists Lyle Brewer\, Steve Fell\, Ahren Shreeve. Drummers Peter MacLean (Maceo Parker) or Matt (Muu) Williams hold down the rhythm section\, and we also feature a host of incredible horn players including: Mike (Maz) Maher (of Snarky Puppy) Greg Blair\, Jon Bean\, Sam Kininger\, Mike Tucker\, Alex Lee Clark\, Brian Thomas\, and Trevor Kellum. \n  \nThe A-Beez

SUMMARY:Jen Kearney/HELLBENDER
DESCRIPTION:Jen Kearney and HELLBENDER live at the Lizard Lounge October 10th at 8 oclock\n\n\nMUST BE 21+ \n$20/$25 door \n7 Doors \n\n\nOriginally from Boston\, Massachusetts\, Jen Kearney has spent some time seasoning her particular style of original music. Her sound is truly an amalgamation of musical styles including Soul\, R&B\, Funk\, Rock\, and Latin. Kearney’s music and attention to lyrics and has met critical acclaim nationally and internationally. \nKearney will be celebrating the release of a full-length album called “Gas Station Poet”coming up on October 17th. She has recorded and released six studio albums and an EP. She has done session work on many other projects. Kearney is a 2 time New England Music Award nominee for soul/r&b act of the year. \nKearney tours both as a solo act and with a full band. She spent 2018-2020 living in London touring the UK/ Europe with her own act and with a 9-piece Latin band called Snowboy & the Latin Section. She has shared the stage with the likes of Maceo Parker\, Los Lobos\, Daryl Hall\, Mavis Staples\, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers\, The Derek Trucks Band and more. \n“Jen Kearney is a gifted singer who can belt out a song with the best of them. She puts a refreshing new spin on funk music with thoughtfully conceived lyrics… simply mesmerizing.” -Steve Morse (Billboard/Rolling Stone) \n“Jen Kearney is a singer-songwriter from Boston\, Massachusetts that represents the very best of what that job description signifies. She’s got a vocal style that’s full-bodied and steeped in character. And her storytelling chops and facile lyrics are off the charts.”- Eric Harabadian (Downbeat/Geoff Wilbur’s Music Blog) \nJen Kearney \n\n\nHELLBENDER bends jazz until it snaps. Built on the raw electricity of classic fusion records like Bitches Brew\, the band channels that brand of chaos through a sharper\, more intentional compositional lens. Ambient sounds are juxtaposed with tough drum beats and a ton of mixed meters. There isn’t endless soloing for its own sake—the band has a collective sound that resonates. \nThe players are conservatory-trained musicians who grew up on classic rock riffs as much as real books. The intention is to bring precision in the music without losing the danger. Amplified jazz\, electric saxophone with guitar pedals\, aggressive grooves\, and tightly forged forms collide\, blurring the line between headbanging and deep listening. Hellbender isn’t resurrecting fusion—they are weaponizing it. \nJared Sims- electric sax/pedals\, Andrew Stern -guitar\, James Rohr-keys\, \, Rick Mcglaughlin-bass\, Randy Wooten-drums \n \nJared Sims

SUMMARY:Kimaya Diggs "Green" Album Release w/ Miranda Rae & Grace Givertz
DESCRIPTION:Kimaya Diggs celebrates the release of her latest album "Green" October 17th with Miranda Rae and Grace Givertz!\n\n\nDoors 7 \n \nRecently off tour dates with Mavis Staples\, Emily King\, Trombone Shorty\, and more\, musician Kimaya Diggs navigates her world with stories. Her songwriting serves as both a portal and a roadmap toward a future self; a not-yet-envisioned world and way of being. Her new album\, Green (out October 2)\, is an extended love missive to the New England landscape\, asking questions of belonging and goodness. Green showcases twelve tracks of glittering\, genre-bending indie pop\, carried by Diggs’ powerful\, honeyed vocals\, and honest\, attentive lyricism.  \n \nHer songwriting has earned her many accolades\, including a New England Music Awards nod\, gigs at legendary folk haunts like Club Passim\, and appearances at Green River Festival\, Rubblebucket’s Dream Picnic\, and the Emily Dickinson Poetry Festival. festival.  \n \nOn Green\, it’s clear Diggs has been forced to harden herself against the heartbreak that comes along with loving and being loved\, but it would be foolish to mistake her hard-won grit for surliness aimed toward the world. It’s this very grit that shapes her love into something more capacious and ever-expanding. Her softness is in turn reserved for herself\, the ones closest to her\, and the earth. It’s this faithful preservation that serves as Green’s trustworthy tether.  \n \nKimaya Diggs \n\n\n\nHailing from the sunshine state of Florida\, Boston based artist Grace Givertz captivates audiences with her indie folk compositions\, blending earworm melodies with heartfelt storytelling. SUMMARY:Ghosts of Jupiter/The Chops
DESCRIPTION:Led by Nate Wilson of Percy Hill and Moe fame\, Ghosts of Jupiter return to the Lizard Lounge with The Chops Oct 24th!\n\n\n$20/$25 Door \nDoors 7 \n \nGhosts of Jupiter is a psychedelic rock band based out of the Boston area\, previously known as the Nate Wilson Group. Led by former Percy Hill keyboardist Nate Wilson\, the band features a loud\, riff-heavy sound inspired by classic rock groups such as Led Zeppelin\, Black Sabbath\, and Cream. \nNate Wilson: Keyboards\, Lead Vocals\, Flute \nPierre Aleksi: Guitar \nThomas Lada: Bass\, Keyboards \nBarrett Goeman: Drums \nGhosts of Jupiter \n \nThe goal of starting the Chops was to provide improvised music to fans with a unique take that is more raw than what is around. Compositions are heavily inspired by west coast psychedelic rock\, the Bosstown sound and the Nuggets Collection album. During the debut show of the Chops\, the band’s name came to be when an older man asked what the band’s name was. He exclaimed that the band had big ‘chops’ while asking. The name was originally going to be temporary but soon got solidified as permanent. \n \nThe brainchild of 1960s psychedelic music lover\, songwriter\, singer and guitarist Seth Gomez\, the Chops has grown from a seed of 1960s flower power into an up-and-coming jamband blossoming into the New England music scene. Formed in 2019 with a vision of blending vintage rock musicality with modernity\, the band featured a rotating lineup before settling with full-time members Bethany Komine (bass)\, Chris Celucci (drums)\, Emma Derhak (vocals)\, Matt Glickman (Zach Nugent\, Buddahfly) on keyboards and Seth Gomez on guitar. The Chops have shared stages and bills with Mihali (Twiddle)\, the Magic Beans\, Big Something\, Max Creek\, and more. Members have also performed alongside members of the Grateful Dead and Furthur (late Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh’s band). \nThe Chops

SUMMARY:Ink From Honey Presents: More than an Underclass\, We are Poets
DESCRIPTION:Ink From Honey Presents: More than an Underclass\, We are Poets; Community Outreach: The Resource to Freedom is Through You & I.\n\n\n$10 \nThe fourth installment of our incarcerated poets project\, where the cold\, silent steel of prison bars melts against the raw warmth of human voice. \nIncarcerated and formerly incarcerated poets pour their heartbreaks and triumphs onto the stage\, demanding that we feel the heavy\, hollow ache of their absence from our streets. Their words remind us that society bleeds from a fractured rib cage as long as our neighbors are locked away in solitary shadow. This unforgettable night shatters the distance between us\, proving that true liberation cannot grow in isolation—our only resource to freedom is the living\, breathing bridge built between You and I. \n \nPoets’ bios: \nArtem Vaskanyan \nHello\, my name is Artem Vaskanyan. At age twenty\, in the year 2000\, I was arrested and imprisoned. During my years of incarceration\, my life set me on the path of spiritual and intellectual growth. Because of my drive to persevere\, I was able to graduate from Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts in 2020\, become an activist\, a writer & Poet\, and a published author of three books. \nThank you for listening. \nYours truly\, \n-Artem \n \nAmos Don \nMy name is Amos Don\, and I am a dedicated scholar\, creative author\, and community advocate currently enrolled in the Emerson Prison Initiative of Emerson College. I’ve been in a track meet for three years chasing down that elusive bachelor’s degree; and through my journey’s\, I found life and happiness\, but not by living for myself\, but by living for and in communion with others.
