DESCRIPTION:A celebration of the life of longtime Poetry Jam collaborator Douglas Bishop.\n\n\nIt is with a heavy heart that Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam announces the passing of our dear longtime collaborator\, Douglas Bishop\, who left us several weeks ago.. Douglas was originally scheduled to perform at his traditional “December birthday” feature\, and we will now dedicate that evening to honoring his memory and celebrating his poetry. He was a cherished presence\, and will be deeply missed by everyone in our community who had the privilege and pleasure of knowing him. \n“Douglas Bishop has been jamming and slamming at the Poetry Jam since it got going – which means he’s been a regular at the Lizard for more than 20 years. As a teacher\, he has worked with classrooms ranging from early childhood to university\, but now mostly teaches online for Mill City Speaks and Lowell Poetry Wheel. As a poet\, he has performed in venues from Glasgow to Guatemala\, but now primarily appears as one of the hosts of the Untitled Open Mic in Lowell. His doctoral study on the development of literate identity in young writers continues in his work for Freeverse!\, Lowell’s youth poetry group. He also works as a visual artist\, as well as performing vocals\, flute\, and percussion with his jazz-poetry band\, Dr. Dougie’s Dangerous Delight (4D). Together with a rotating cast of top musicians from New England\, they create an improvisational art form that delves into the unknown\, transforming initial ideas into fully formed pieces of music on the spot. Drawing inspiration from free jazz\, psychedelia\, and experimental grooves\, Skunk Jesus offers a dark and whimsical journey into uncharted musical territories. \nhttps://m.facebook.com/skunkjesus/ \n\n\nCLAMB was born out of a Dadaist desire to create music free from societal norms of perfection. They dig deep into the groove of soulful American music from the infinite James Brown and Alice Coltrane to the aether of seventies European krautrock pioneers like Cluster and Harmonia to patiently sketch foreign landscapes from the ground up. Clamb are devoted to keeping an attitude of acceptance in their largely-improvised songs\, choosing a direction and exploring its corners and nuances to tell stories without words. \n \nClamb’s tonal palette features Peter Danilchuk’s synths blissfully wiggling through the air\, Jameson Stewart’s mythical gold-glitter-encrusted fretless bass sending terrestrial energy rippling through a rogue’s gallery of cheap pedals\, Joshua Merhar’s playful drumming that constantly eggs the band onward to new hemispheres of groove\, and in 2022 Clamb introduced guitar hero and best friend Sam Crawford whose tonal character and improvisational voice have propelled the band’s ensemble playing further into the fever-dream-realm than ever expected. She grew up in North Cambridge\, MA to Haitian immigrant parents and was raised in the church. She started writing poetry at 16 years old and began performing at 24 while attending Bridgewater State University \, where she joined the Spoken Word group ‘ The Seeds of Poetry’ \nShe has performed at various open mics at churches\, colleges\, art galleries\, barsrestaurants etc.She has graced stages in Boston \, New York \, St Louis \, Atlanta and Los Angeles\, as well as online via Instagram. Not only has she shared her pieces in multiple locations \, she has also co-hosted a few open mics as well. The written and spoken word have always been her safe place. DESCRIPTION:Ring in the New Year with the echo drenched sounds of Dub Apocalypse!\n\n\n	MUST BE 21+ \n   Dub Apocalypse is an instrumental dub reggae band from Boston\, MA. Band members are Tommy Benedetti-drums\,Van Martin-guitar\,Johnny Trama-guitar\,Aaron Bellamy-bass\,and Timo Shanko-sax/bass.  The band came together in 2007\, led by drummer Tommy Benedetti and guitarist\, Johnny Trama.Tommy Benedetti is one of the founding members of American Reggae Pioneers\,John Brown’s Body. He brings a wealth of experience from the reggae/dub scene to the table\,having recorded albums for the legendary Shanachie Label\,John Zorn’s Tzadik Label (mixed by Bill Laswell)\,and is currently with John Brown’s Body on Easy Star Records.  This history is combined with almost 2 decades of International touring\,as well as backing some of the giants of Jamaican music\,including The Meditations and Justin Hinds. \n    Guitarist Johnny Trama adds a soulful blues touch to the Dub Apocalypse signature sound.Trama has spent time on the road with the great Ron Levy\, BB King’s organ player\, as well as many other regional rock and soul/r&b acts.  Not long after Dub Apocalypse came together\, longtime friend Timo Shanko entered the fold.A dual threat on both bass and saxophone\,Shanko is a veteran of the blues and free jazz scene.He spent many years on the road with Blues legend\, Eddie Kirkland\, as well as with G. Love and Special Sauce. Shanko is also a prolific composer\,and his improvisational stylings are an integral part of the Dub Apocalypse sound. Although DA started out as more of a collective\,in the past few years the lineup has solidified with the addition of bassist Aaron Bellamy and guitarist Van Martin. Bellamy is a longtime fixture in the Boston funk scene\,and in combination with Benedetti \,they form the deep\,militant sound at the core of Dub Apocalypse. \n    Originally hailing from Chicago\,Van Martin rounds out the lineup on guitar. Martin has much touring experience as well\, including appearances with Bernie Worrell and Big Daddy Kane. His sonic textures\,adventurous playing and songwriting have helped Dub Apocalypse take their sound to a new level. The DA sound is an evolving mix of original compositions and their own interpretations of classic Jamaican and UK songs and dub plates. Heavy hitting drum and bass grooves set the table. For 10 years they have been plying their own high-energy improvisational music across the Northeast. Releasing their 2nd full LP\, Love Monster\, in October of 2023 has made big waves for the band. Venerable online music magazine Fecking Bahamas has said they are\, “Embedding new-wave texture and groove with math rock\, indie\, and psychedelic prog\, it’s a ship on a current all its own.” Job Creators spent 2024 on tour in America and Canada and are looking forward to 2025. \n\n\nElisabeth Hoffman is a Folk-rock artist from Boston\, Ma who also known as the front woman of the Boston-based progressive rock band Verdegree. Hoffman got her start writing music at a young age and continued to write\, sing\, and perform in many different genres and in many different settings. Going back to her roots\, Hoffman now plays solo performances\, showcasing her unique songwriting abilities that tell stories to her captivated audience. DESCRIPTION:Lake Saint Daniel\, Stefan Weiner and Noble Dust live at the Lizard Lounge Jan 17th!\n\n\nLake Saint Daniel is the project of artist/producer Daniel Radin (Future Teens). Growing up in Massachusetts\, his dad would play James Taylor every night while making dinner and Daniel couldn’t stand it. However after years of making emo-influenced power pop with his band Future Teens\, Daniel’s inherited love of gentle melodies began to peak through the cracks of his work. This eventually led to Good Things\, Lake Saint Daniel’s debut\, a record about nostalgia\, sentimentality and reckoning with growing older. \nLake Saint Daniel \nStefan Weiner is an NYC-based queer indie folk singer-songwriter. He mixes the immediacy of classic songwriting with the intimacy of a quiet conversation with a friend. He was recently a Top Shelf finalist in NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest 2024. In the announcement video\, Boygenius’s Julien Baker said Stefan’s submission “picked the safe combination in my heart” and Robin Hilton\, Sr. Producer at NPR music said\, “It all came together perfectly.” Stefan’s work has received critical acclaim in publications like Forbes\, The Advocate\, American Songwriter\, among many others. He has also shared the story of his journey through medical mystery and back to music on various podcasts such as This Is Actually Happening and RISK! \nStefan Weiner \n \nNoble Dust creates dynamic\, lyrically-driven folk pop\, blending ethereal vocal harmonies with intricate horn and string melodies. Since the release of their debut album ‘And The Tide Rises’ in 2018 funded by Club Passim’s Iguana Grant\, they have shared stages big and small across the country (a sold-out Club Passim\, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival\, City Winery Boston MainStage\, The Grey Eagle\, The Royal Room\, Folk Alliance International). They released their second LP ‘A Picture for a Frame’ recorded at Dimension Sound Studios with producer Dan Cardinal (Darlingside\, The Ballroom Thieves) in August 2023 to critical acclaim from NPR and Bandcamp among others. The group is a 2023 New England Music Award Nominee for Americana Band of the Year\, 2023 Falcon Ridge Grassy Hill Emerging Artist and received Club Passim’s inaugural Gecko Award for creative narrative works in 2023. \nNoble Dust

Representing the U.S. in Italy\, Regie competed for & received both the Absolute Poetry Award in Monfalcone & The Europa in Versi Award in LaGuardia di Como. \nHe’s a Brother Thomas Fellow & has received two Live Arts Boston Grants to develop his first play\, The Juke: A Blues Bacchae\, in which he intersects the ancient Greek tragedy with African-American spiritual & musical culture. Regie has served as consultant for the NEA’s “How Art Works” commission & the “Mere Distinction of Color”: a permanent exhibit at James Madison’s Montpelier home focusing on American slavery & the U.S. constitution. \nHe has composed texts for The Boston City Singers\, The Mystic Chorale\, the Handel+Haydn Society\, & has featured with the Lexington Symphony. He’s an actor & co-creator of The Shakespeare Time-Traveling Speakeasy— a theatrical\, literary-concert focusing on the life & works of William Shakespeare. \nHe serves on the boards of the New England Poetry Club\, The Lexington Symphony\, & Grub Street Writers. Aside from being a beloved coworker and friend\, she is a beloved member of the Camberville music scene. On January 21st we will be hosting a Tami-fest\, a musical celebration and fundraiser for the benefit of Tami Lee featuring Dub Apocalypse\, Abbie Barrett\, The Truevines\, Abbie Barrett\, Jesse Dee and Lyle Brewer. Cash and Gofundme donations will be accepted at the door\, we’ll have raffles and we’ll  be donating all bar and food sales from this event towards her medical and life expenses. DESCRIPTION:Le Prestige and Fully Celebrated Orchestra live at the Lizard Lounge January 22nd at 8pm!\n\n\n$12/$15 door  \n \nLe Prestige is an instrumental and improvisational music group based in Somerville and Cambridge\, Massachusetts. Their original songs are primarily influenced by the spirit of 60’s soul jazz and the big beats and loops of 90’s hip-hop and electronica. Taking an organic and low-tech approach to these sounds\, the tunes feature horn-driven melodies and expressive soloing over funk\, jazz\, reggae and disco grooves. Live sets are peppered with select covers such as “Wichita Lineman” and the “Theme from S.W.A.T”.The band consists of bandleader and composer Chris Forky on upright bass\, John Glenshaw on drums\, David Johnston on guitar\, Gary Wallen on vibraphone\, Michael Mclaughlin on accordion\, Scott Getchell on trumpets and flugelhorn\, Kit Buckley on tenor sax\, Charles Morrell on alto sax and flute\, and Dana Colley (Morphine) on baritone and tenor saxes. \n \nThe Fully Celebrated Orchestra has been a force on the Boston music scene since saxophonist/composer Jim Hobbs and bassist Timo Shanko started playing free jazz at punk rock clubs and street corners in the late 1980s. Still going strong as underground legends over three decades later\, FCO also features cornetist Taylor Ho Bynum\, drummer Luther Gray\, and guitarist Ian Ayers. Their latest album\, Sob Story on Relative Pitch Records\, was released in February ’24.
