SUMMARY:Lady Lupine/The Endorphins/Chris Cardone
DESCRIPTION:Lady Lupine live at the Lizard Lounge with the Endorphins and Chris Cardone August 8th!\n\n\n$15/$20 door \nDoor 8 \n \nLady Lupine is a Boston based heavy soul band that delivers high energy performances of unique original material. The band creates an engaging live experience by cultivating visceral connections through sound. Fronted by vocalist Christina Lacoste\, Lady Lupine draws inspiration from the soul of Amy Winehouse\, and the sonic eclecticism of Portishead. Traces of Vulfpeck’s tight\, technical funk\, and Jimi Hendrix’s fuzz rock grooves can be heard in the band’s sound as well. In 2017\, Lady Lupine was formed and began developing material that combines the respective members’ loves of classic soul and more modern\, heavy rock. Jon and Josh provide a driving and edgy underlying layer that supports Christina and Fran’s soulful leads. Lady Lupine released their debut EP Trust in October 2019 followed by Extended Plays released in 2021. \n \nLadyLupine.com \n\n\nThe Endorphins are a Boston-based trio fusing raw emotion with heavy textures and soaring melodies. Since forming in 2014\, the band—Matt Bass (guitar/vocals)\, Austin Wilson (bass)\, and Jeff Walsh (drums)—has carved out a sound that lives somewhere between the haze of shoegaze and the punch of grunge\, tied together by the heart of alternative rock. With immersive live shows and songs that balance grit and atmosphere\, The Endorphins create a sonic space that feels both intimate and explosive. \nThe Endorphins \n\n\nChris Cardone’s been working with his electric guitar since 2011 as 1/3 of North Shore rock band Heavy Necker. Drawing inspiration from the rock\, jazz\, and blues greats of contemporary music\, his style shoots with sincere lyricism and a heavy picking hand.

SUMMARY:Which Side?: A Protest Music Teach Out
DESCRIPTION:A concert and discussion series celebrating and exploring protest music beginning August 13th!\n\n\nPay What You Want \nDoors 7\, Music 8 \nWhich Side?: A Protest Music Teach-Out is a concert and discussion series celebrating and exploring protest music. The events will use James Sullivan’s book\, Which Side Are You On?: 20th Century American History in 100 Protest Songs\, as a starting point for the presentation of songs that ask listeners to consider how music gives voice to resistance\, advocacy\, and change. While the series will anchor itself to the book\, collaborators will also contribute 21st-century music\, both originals and covers. \nScheduled to perform on August 13 are Kemp Harris\, Dave Herlihy (O Positive)\, David Santos (Eddie Japan)\, Laurie Sargent with Dana Colley\, Naomi Westwater\, and Judge Milton Wright (Black Nativity). They will be backed by the house band\, The Paid Protesters\, led by Ed Valauskas\, with Anthony Kaczynski (Magnetic Fields)\, Paul Buckley\, Magen Tracy\, and Mike Oram. Each performer will do a song inspired by Sullivan’s book\, and a song of their own. \nThe 90-minute show will also feature commentary by Sullivan\, and a short panel discussion at the end. \nThe show is scheduled to begin promptly at 8 p.m. \nAdmission is pay-what-you-want\, with all proceeds going to the musicians and other direct expenses. Tickets can be reserved\, but a reservation does not guarantee entry unless you are in the room by 7:30 p.m. If there are people waiting for entry\, reservations will be released starting at that time. \nIf there are any profits after workers are paid\, they will be donated to an appropriate non-profit fighting for intellectual freedom in our nation’s courts. \nThis series is produced by Joyce Linehan\, Jon Lupfer\, James Sullivan\, and Ed Valauskas\, with the help of many generous friends.

SUMMARY:Julia Mark/Oropendola/Aerhart
DESCRIPTION:Julia Mark and Oropendola (Joanna Schubert) return to the Lizard Lounge August 20th with Aerhart!\n\n\nThree friends. Two album releases. One special show. Celebrate the release of two compelling albums: Swimming by Oropendola (Joanna Schubert) and The Keeper by Aerhart (Amelia Wellers). Julia Mark returns to the Lizard Lounge stage to join them for a special evening of singer-songwriter musings. \n \nJULIA MARK \nJulia Mark is a singer-songwriter-pianist interested in wordplay\, wit\, and the weight of being human. Life on the moon\, heartbreak on Earth\, secret plans\, and palindromes…these are a few topics addressed by Julia’s songwriting. Raised on the sounds of bebop greats and folk music legends\, her music features pin-point vocals and clever storytelling. Following the release of her 2018 album\, Gemini Julia Mark was nominated for New England Music and Boston Music Awards for Songwriter of the Year\, as well as a New England Music Award nomination for Female Performer of the Year. Now based near Seattle\, WA\, Julia Mark released her second album\, Keeping You in September 2022. She is currently writing and performing new music centered on the passing of her late husband\, musician Bredon Jones (Fuzzy Futures\, Jakals\, Slow Dress). \n \nOROPENDOLA \nOropendola is the project of Brooklyn-based singer\, composer\, and keyboardist Joanna Schubert\, whose music blends theatrical chamber pop\, playful dissonance\, and lyrical storytelling. Her songs move between the whimsical and the intimate\, drawing from keys-based art-pop and indie-folk traditions. Oropendola’s 2023 kaleidoscopic chamber pop debut Waiting for the Sky to Speak was described as “at the meeting point between arms in the air pop perfection and something altogether more jarring and intriguing.” Swimming\, her sophomore record out June 27th\, is an intimate piano-vocal collection adorned in minimal\, idiosyncratic arrangements. Harkening to inspirations such as Fiona Apple\, Regina Spektor\, and The Roches\, the album captures Schubert’s penchant and reverence for unfettered live performance. \n \nAERHEARTAerhart is the project of Amelia Wellers —a classically\, chorally\, and operatically trained singer making vibrant\, electronic indie and art pop\, with a twinge of folk. Her sophomore album\, The Keeper\, released May 30th\, and is a reclamation of personal agency\, as well as a reckoning with the power imbalances that make it so hard to hold onto it in the first place. Aerhart’s sound invokes cinematic melancholy and lush and expansive experimentation\, calling comparisons from Enya to Lana Del Rey\, Weyes Blood to Caroline Polachek. Her technical background informs her approach—not in rigidity but in an attention to texture\, time\, and movement. That deep\, nuanced knowledge shines through ‘The Keeper\,’ as does Wellers’ fascination with contrasts—intimate and vast\, delicate and forceful\, organic and electronic\, refined and raw.

In 2016\, Grammy award-winning mix engineer Ducky Carlisleassembled templates of additional songs for the album\, and Corin flew to Memphis to record with Big Star drummer Jody Stephens at Ardent Studios. His 2013 album New Lion Terraces was recorded at Q Division and Abbey Road Studios in London and featured contributions from Kay Hanley (Letters To Cleo)\, Ken Stringfellow (The Posies)\, drummer Dave Mattacks (Fairport Convention/XTC)\, Edward Ball (TV Personalities) and Martin Carr. Corin is\, always\, accompanied on his new album by his ever faithful drummer Matt Burwell who will bitch and complain if he gets left out of the press release. \nCorin Ashley

SUMMARY:Sinnet/JJ Slater/Savoir Faire
DESCRIPTION:Sinnet\, JJ Slater and Savoir Faire live at the Lizard Lounge August 23rd!\n\n\n$15 adv/$20 door \n \nArtisanal\, domesticated\, indie-rock-soul\, lovingly crafted by Aaron Spransy & pals in Island Town\, MA. Sinnet celebrates a love of songwriters like Paul Simon and Elliott Smith and combines it with the rhythm and swagger of bands like Spoon and Booker T & The MGs. Sinnet also pulls from the cupboard bits of Motown\, surf\, pop\, psychedelia and spookiness. \nThe band has collaborated with members of Lady Lupine\, Guster\, Karate\, The Promise Ring\, Pansy Division\, Rebuilder and more. Recently the band contributed a track to Starstruck: A Tribute To The Kinks\, a compilation featuring tracks by Wheatus\, The Fatal Flaw\, Plus Ones and more. \n \nhttp://www.sinnetsongs.com/ \nUsually when folks describe JJ Slater’s music\, words relate back to nature\, the outdoors\, the warm sun and the cool breeze. His UMASS Amherst psych-rock band Humble Digs was a mainstay at Stockbridge School of Agriculture events\, and ten years later tours are often routed with ulterior\, National Park-related motives. \nBased in New England\, he has toured much of the US\, playing festivals\, basements\, and club gigs\, at times opening for artists like Kat Wright\, NRBQ\, Johnny A\, and David Wax Museum. In 2022\, he completed a residency at the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation\, where he wrote his new record “The Silver Key”. It was recorded with a Mass Cultural Council grant in 2023\, released at the end of 2024\, and you’ll find him touring and playing the full record in 2025. He’ll also be touring with his Americana-Blues road-dog project Signature Dish\, co-fronting the band with partner Lexi Weege and lending his songs to a dynamic\, soul-journey set. \nhttps://www.jjslatermusic.com/ \n \nWith a voice straight out of the jazz age\, Savoir Faire brings the modern existential crisis into a realm of retro-noir. Born to an American mother and an Iranian father\, Savoir Faire was absorbing the influences of everything from classic 60s rock to Persian pop at an early age. It was during her pre-teen years that she was inspired by the 90s wave of female songwriters to pick up the guitar. Eventually\, she studied jazz guitar in college\, where she would discover the duets of Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald. The artistry of both musicians would greatly influence Savoir Faire’s approach to both guitar and voice. She would spend years performing as a lounge singer and jazz guitarist before adding the last few ingredients that would form the aesthetic of Savoir Faire: lush and syrupy vocals\, biting lyricism\, and searing guitar parts that float between the genres of jazz\, rock\, and chamber pop. The result is a Lynchian rumination on the present in the debut album Hopeless Nostalgic\, combining wistful nostalgia and modern rage to answer the question “What if a torch singer had a Riot Grrl heart?” \nSavoir Faire
